Hey guys, i have a few questions about regearing my 12 standard cab 2.7l 4x4 with i believe to be 8” open diff. Gone down some internet rabbit holes leaving me without the confidence to order correct parts.I was hoping to go to 4:88 ratio instead of 4:10 bc i wanted to up my tire size. With that being said, do i need to change both carrier’s to accept aftermarket gears? Spool, mechanical locker? Im okay with front being open for now. What do i need to do fellas really hoping to have it for the summer months and list in the internet lol
    Thanks

What size tire? Yes you’ll have to do both front and rear differentials. A set up to consider could be a Trutrac limited slip in the rear and a Yukon Grizzly locker in the front.

You'll have to regear both the front and rear. 4.88 is a nice gear to go to. I've run 33",35", and 37" tires with this gear ratio and was happy.

You should check out East Coast Gear Supply for prebuilt differentials. I'm a fan of ARB air lockers, although they are spendy. Since you are a 4 cylinder truck, your rear diff is the 8.4. IMO, I
If you're regearing then the extra cost of a front locker is worth it.

Thanks for the help fellas ill check out the prebuilt ones, i knew i had to do both diffs but read somewhere aftermarket gears dont bolt to stock carrier so i was concerned if i had to change the front carrier aswell. I am hoping to go to a 35” tire so sounds like 4.88’s will be the ticket. Also will i need to change my axles for a aftermarket carrier? Wondering about spline counts. I would love to go arb lockers but my wallet isnt ready yet hahah but i will check out a front locker thanks again
