Thanks a lot! It's great that you also confirmed that you have the VLED V2 harness, thanks a lot!

A few more observations: I disconnected the VLED V2 harness and just connected the OEM overhead harness. No random "Shift to 4L" message and no message if the auto-headlights turn off. Given this, I suspect that the harness is likely pinned incorrectly. I confirmed that I can engage 4Lo and Crawl Control, but MTS is still not responding.

Perhaps the path forward is get my V2 harness warrantied and bring the truck in for diagnostics. Should I fully remove the VLED footwell kit or just the harness - to avoid the dealer blaming the mods for the issue?

Who knows what the dealer will blame. Removing the lights would be a pain since you would need new adhesive. I suppose you could leave the lights unplugged and remove the other harnesses and components.

First, check the harnesses and connections for any bent pins, it may be as simple as that. Also check any fuses related to MTS.

Yes, I'm thinking of just removing the overhead harness and leaving the bottom footwell light assemblies intact.

paging @caribe makaira - do you know of any fuses that are linked to the MTS system?

    YES YOU SHOULD REMOVE THEM!

I had a Taco getting crap mileage and dying in traffic. Toyota twice blamed my Ham Radio - even after I escalated it to Corporate. I had to go to an independent shop, pay out of pocket, and then seek reimbursement from Toyota. Took me 5 months and over 2,000 miles to get it fixed.

Your dealer may be better, may not have an issue with the lights, but then they might. Given the fact that Corporate says their dealership did nothing wrong, I suspect the dealerships are operating under guidance from Corporate.

Update: I got the truck diagnosed. The culprit is the circuit board showing a burned connection to SW1. As to how this happened - I hope it's not the VLEDS mispinned harness that shorted it...

Unfortunately this is not covered by the 5-year powertrain warranty. The dealer is asking for 600CAD to get the circuit board replaced plus the diagnostic fees.

I ended up going to a scrap yard and got an entire overhead console for 200CAD. Confirmed that the MTS is finally working.

1 YEAR Review of the 2022 Toyota Tundra 13:10 on this video talks about crawl control and what most people realize when it's actually needed. Slid down a waterfall once and was fortunate that the skid caught a large boulder, which saved my ass. It instantly reminded me I that I should be using some of the tech that came with the truck. Ran crawl control/mts off and on the rest of the route with no more issues. Wheeling for so long I just forget sometimes I have those options.

I reinstalled the replacement harness and everything is working - footwell lights, MTS, Crawl Control.

As previously mentioned, I started getting the "Shift to 4L" issue when I installed the footwell light kit. "Shift to 4L" is related to MTS. It is likely that the defective harness caused the circuit board to fail. I reached out to VLEDS - CS forwarded my emails and conversation to their engineering team for response.

Is expecting compensation reasonable for this problem?

    Maybe some, a little.
I see it as two types of payment / compensation they owe you.

    1. They owe you for their defective product. Period. End of story. They are not responsible beyond that. Was their product defective? 80% sure yes. But you could have inspected it so you assume some accountability in this too - unless the broken part was concealed or not easily recognized by a layperson that they are marketing to.
    2. Beyond the product replacement for their defective product, it would be a nice gesture, if they offered of their own free will, to split the diff and go halvsies with you on the repair to the truck.

#2 is where you find out what kind of company they are. Are they a discount, bottom basement, no frills, vendor that makes no attempt at a good faith offer because their prices are so low there isn't enough margin to cover these incidents (aka - you got your compensation up front when you saved money). Or are they a top tier customer service org that values the relationship and reputation from word of mouth advertising and offers somewhere between 25% and 50% of the damage as an un-required kindness?

Here's are a video doing a good job explaining ATRAC:

And this dude has come pretty compelling arguments why ATRAC is better than lockers:

In my (limited) experience ATRAC is superior in most situations.

Thanks for the insight :). I hope to deliver good news following VLEDS' response.

Is ATRAC the same as MTS?

I notice he talks about leaving all of your traction control ON (which I agree with) but on my truck (and I'll have to go re-verify) I believe that 4LO (required for MTS) also turns off Traction Control. Is it because MTS supplements a different / better form of traction control?

Yes, MTS is ATRAC. "MTS" is just a way to select how much slippage the ATRAC allows.

Then is there sound logic in only having the ATRAC/MTS available in 4LO?
I'd think that kind of terrain management would be more beneficial in 4HI before you even need 4LO.
Kinda like I've thought about the Locker Mod so I can lock the back axle in 4HI.

I'm curious as to how they helped you out, if you don't mind sharing. Seems like a great company to work with.
