Walmart Cheapo Cooper Discoverer AT

Just left Walmart with my new Cooper Discoverer AT 265/75/16 on a 17 OR. My last tires were the same size Goodyear Duratrac. They still had some tread but cupped badly and lost balance around 50k. I ran them to 63k. I got 70k out of the stock ones. They got super loud and the whole family has been complaining for about 6 months. The Coopers balanced well and no vibrations up to 100mph on the way home. Never bought tires at Walmart before but they were under 700 OTD with the premium package/road hazard/lifetime balance included with Walmart plus. My original plan was to get the new Cooper Road & Trail but there was some fuckery with the pricing in my shopping cart with Tire Rack and I got mad. I'll update the post again with a review after my spring break road trip with the kid. Driving to Florida from Chicago to camp on the beach in the GFC.

 

I recently put cheap Walmart tires on the chicks lexus rx350, hands down labor was significantly cheaper when comparing to my local discount tire...
Wheels havent fell off yet, & its been few months now...

 

Saw those at Walmart. Been using Cooper for a while. Good tire. Like the fact that warranty, road hazard and balance can be done at any Walmart. Walmarts are everywhere. Makes nice if traveling.

 

Update: Road trip to FL from Chicago went well. Drove on the beach quite a bit. Some gravel in the mountains. No mud or snow yet. Tires maintained balance and are quiet with a few thousand miles.

 

Walmart tires are slightly different then the same tire bought elsewhere. At the least, the tread pattern is different. Don't know if the rubber compound or QC is different.

This is what I do know. Bought 4 Cooper discoverer at3 from Walmart online, had them shipped to store for install. In about two months, one had a bulge in the sidewall from internal cord failure. I contacted Walmart, and since I bought them online, the store couldn't help me. I had to purchase another tire online, have it mounted, then the store issued a refund for the cost of the tire and install. So not only did I have to front the money, but then I had to wait for shipping, which defeats the purpose of Walmart tire centers being everywhere if I am traveling. Last time I buy tires at Walmart.

These were the second set of Cooper's I have owned, other was about 8 years ago and they also had a sidewall failure, purchased those from Tires Inc. Also the last time I buy a Cooper tire. I will stick with Falkens and Nittos.

 

What actual brand were they?

 

It was on a rollback deal $90ea.
Walmart charges $15 a wheel to mount & balance so dirt cheap compared to discount tire...

The link takes me to some other tire. Still, I would be tempted for that kind of tire deal.

My late brother bought his Michelin tires at WalMart and Sam's Club for 20+ years. Although he had heard stories that they were seconds or some different model of tires, he got good wear out of them. And he was a really spirited driver. He drove all his vehicles to their utter limits.
