This is super discouraging. This didn't happen like this on other Gens. Is it the design of the 4th Gen, or the paint itself?

Combination of both. Paint has always been thin and the aggressive fenders on the new gen put them right at throwing distance of the tires.

Would drive me crazy, looks just awful for a brand new truck. Just imagine what it will look like after 5 years.

I'd be demanding Toyota re-paint and then PPF it under warranty...

Rocks are evolving. They are more aggressive now and paint technology can't keep up.

I'm definitely going to bring it up to the dealer when I pick it up (if it ever gets here) -- and the idea of getting the tint done and the PPF sounds like the right idea, because this is going to become my daily driver.

Given Toyota's reputation for thin and soft paint, you'd think they'd have picked this up in testing...

Do any of you know if the factory sliders do a job of deflecting debris -- or is it just the solid running boards?

I’m waiting for my Taco to be built and shipped, but I’m definitely getting flaps and boards immediately. Might even bring the flaps with me and install them before leaving the dealer. I’d love to get the TRD cast aluminum boards as they are pretty wide but also expensive. I’ll probably get the aluminum HD2 boards from rough country.

Most of the testing is done with a mule and then hidden with camouflage real world. Its definitely not thought through.

Just imagining what it's going to look like after 5 years, but likely not a concern because turbo not likely to last that long anyway.

Bad design? They made the rear stick out too much?

Compare 5G 4Runner to 4G Tacoma. Rear of 4R sticks out from center body more than the Tacoma.

There are several other factors at play that folk aren't looking at or mentioning, such as front tire position/offset, front flare shape, and heavily tapered lower doors. Look from bottom of front tire tread backwards and it's very easy to visualize a direct path from tire to rear flare.

Check the Bronco forums, and this is a very common issue too, except it's all hitting the lower 4-5" door panel. The #1 action to mitigate this is get rid of those Goodyear tires.

Canadian mud flaps and stock running boards prevent 99% of chips,in fact my 24 OR premium has zero chips

Xpel, STEK, I have STEK on both mine and the wifes. Has been amazing for 2 years now. I had Suntek Ultra on my 2019 and even that is a better option than 3M.

I haven’t researched any of them but there’s a reason you don’t see high end detailers or installers using the brand, it’s just behind.
