Starter isn't engaging after clutch job

    37's,lockers, bumpers, bobbed etc.
    No it didn't. The Toyota OEM starter would start it maybe 1 in 15 times and then promptly not disengage. Most of the time it sounded like it was hitting the face of the ring gear without engaging.

    The reman measures .7 mm deeper from mounting face to the top of the bendix teeth.

    I looked all around the bellhousing where it mounts and everything is tight. No unused mounting points and nothing out of alignment that I can see.

    I could be wrong but looking at the top picture, it seems like there’s not enough clearance between the gears of the starter and ring gear, and like the solenoid should kick out further.

    You can try finding a starter rebuild shop, show pictures, explain all the swapping. Maybe they can give you a solution.
