    Hello everyone.

I recently purchased a used topper for my 2014 sport with tow package. I'd like to power the brake light, but would prefer to not splice into the brake light wiring behind the driver's side tail light.

I purchased the 7-way connector harness from mastercraft that they assured me would be compatible with my 2014, alas, it does not seem to be.

This is the style of plug I have on my tacoma:

There's a flap that flips up, and typically you would plug a trailer harness in from the front. I assumed the harness would unplug from the rear, and that's where I would plug in the harness adapter for the brake light. But no, apparently not how it works.

    This is the harness:

I pretty much scoured these threads looking for information, but have come up short.

Any suggestions? Amy I missing something completely obvious?

Perfect - this is exactly what I was looking for - didn't know it was a thing. Appreciate it.

Shoot me a PM, we can make one up for your 2nd gen

As to this plug and that leer adapter: That type of adapter will work with a 3rd and 4th gen, as they kind of adopted a "universal" trailer plug style. Not all trucks did this, and some did it earlier than others, but I believe the 2016+ Tacomas that had the towing package all switched to this style. But on the 2nd and 3rd gen, it's easier to just grab brake from behind the taillight. The 4th gen where the barkae and turn are combined would use something like this though.

Would, I am assuming? I guess I assumed that module on it separates the brake signal out so it doesn't flash. Kind of how Diode Dynamics and VLED do for theirs? Also, I need to spell check "brake"

Man that would be huge! Super appreciate it. I'm confident that I could make the connection from behind the driver's side brake light, I even bought some positaps already, but if I can do it without messing with any of the existing wiring, I'd rather do it that way.

What's weird is that this wiring harness I bought (which was not cheap - $130) looks like it should work - I assumed (dumbly) that the plug could pull out from the back - damn near broke it trying to get it off. Mastercraft assured me too that the part I was buying would fit my 2014 specifically. When I emailed them about it, they basically did the equivalent of shrug and said something like "never seen that before". Now I've already got a new connector soldered to the harness, and they don't want to take it back. Mostly my fault, but still annoying.

    I'll send you a pm.

That sucks they won’t help you out more! And $130 is a lot for sure. I’ve been directing people toward the one that Diode Dynamics makes
    https://www.diodedynamics.com/stage-series-c1r-7-pin-dual-output-trailer-wiring-harness.html
That one will give you brake, park, and reverse. It also has two connectors if you ever need an excuse to add a C1R to your hitch :D. But all that being said, that still won’t work on your 2nd gen. Just putting it here for future people who might run into the same issue.

This sounds like something that FBC has made for years.

and that has been wired into existing wiring with quick connects for years.
