How would this have broken? both coilovers are like that. I'm guessing when I forced the HS knob it snapped somehow.. But I still don't get how it got hung up or manipulated enough to snap like this.. @AccuTune Offroad any theories?

This is caused from excessive force turning the high speed adjuster knob.

That clip goes on the end of a threaded shaft is connected to the high speed adjuster knob (blue). When you rotate the knob it with thread in/out from that round plate with the pin through it. When its unthreaded all the way, it stops at that clip. If you try and rotate the knob even further, you are basically trying to push that clip off the shaft.

I don't want to blame my DSC yet as a culprit for problems, however when I installed a full set of PES shocks last year my front driver was always a little suspect. I have left the adjuster alone for a good long time thinking if I don't mess with it things would stay status quo. Now I have a tire that is cupped like crazy in the same location as my suspect DSC, and the shocks are beyond the initial warranty so now it's on me. 25k on tires with regular rotations and the other 3 look fine. Hooray.

Moral of the story is if you are having issues probably a good idea to get it taken care of ASAP. Now I get to learn how to rebuild mine after only 14k on shocks and mild offroading and see what fun things I find during teardown.

Edit: Or maybe not, couple people now mentioned the SPC BJ might be to blame. Will have to take a closer look.

You are always welcome to send the shocks into us for rebuild. We can go through everything to make sure they are 100% in working order.

@wi_taco "I don't want to blame my DSC yet as a culprit for problems" I agree. Tire cupping can be caused from a few things you may want to check out first before servicing that shock. Looks like you may have SPC arms, which have been known to wear out the ball joint prematurely. Inspecting those & alignment would be a starting point if it were me. If the shock was causing the cupping, I would except there to be leaking oil or no nitrogen charge and both of those would be very noticeable. I believe you bought those shocks from us, so you are eligible for 25% off labor for a rebuild if thats a route you would like to take. Let us know if we can help!

Thanks, someone else mentioned the SPC ball joints being a culprit which I hadn't quite given enough consideration. I didn't find any play last time I checked but I'll have to go test/measure them more closely.

Picked up the truck Friday after having the Fox 2.5's installed on the front and back. Front high and low speed turn fine. Back low's turn fine. Both back high speed are completely stuck. Tried turning both ways, nothing. Taking it in tomorrow for the mechanics to look at, will let you know what they say. Kind of annoyed to have paid for "top of the line" shocks and immediately having a problem that was apparently a known issue more than 4.5 years ago. Even if we can get them to turn, I'm worried this is indicative of a problem that's going to rear its head in a major way after the warranty expires. Curious how this issue resolved for others.

doing them the first time is always the hardest. Might be tough now especially if it’s cold. Once you get them going, just remember which way you have room turning. It gets easier in future adjustments.

Just logged on to give an update and you nailed it already: mechanic said the same thing: wait until it's above freezing and if it's still an issue we'll take a look at it. It's been between 0-25 degrees here since Friday. Will let it warm up, wash them off, and give them a try. Will update either way. Thanks for the input Lit

2/1/25 Update: Weather warmed up and the key to help turn the high’s came in. The backs can easily be turned now.

Hello All. I just recieved my brand new Fox Shocks 985-26-051. The adjusters are frozen on both shocks. I cycled the shocks on the carpet by hand, still no movement on the adjustment knobs. Are these shocks junk, paid a lot for these shocks. Whats the deal?

This is happening on Fox 2.0 remote reservoir shocks with Low Speed Compression knob? Thats very rare, we don't hear about this very often.

In our experience, the adjuster knobs are usually all the way open (softest), so I would recommend trying to turn the knobs clockwise to get them to open. If they have been sitting around on a shelf somewhere for a while, sometimes they can get sticky. Once you can cycle them a few times they usually become easier to rotate. It may take a lot of effort to get them free, but we highly recommend NOT using any kind of tool to pry them open. You will risk damaging the shock.

Well I just opened the new set of Fox shocks I ordered after returning the last pair and guess what happened. Both shocks were bad. I could not turn either one. I am done with these expensive shocks. I guess their junk.

take a picture from the side so we can see if they're fully closed of full open. If you spin them too far they can get damaged.
