How much does the rear brake bias rod travel?

Im not the smartest person, so Im looking to see if someone know for sure how this works.

Im only concerned about the range of movement of the rod. Im making an aux tank that goes above the rod and I would like to know how it travels.

Say I have 4 inches till my rear end hits the bump stops, will the brake bias rod also pivot that same 4 inches or does it pivot on the here (see marking A) and not travel the same amount?

You should be able to jack up the diff all the way until it hits the stops to see. As well as the opposite with droop by jacking the frame until the rear wheels are off.

If I jack the diff its just gonna lift the truck though? Its not gonna compress the suspension all the way.

The mounting point marked "A" in that picture will travel the same distance as the axle. So if there's 4" between the bump stop and the frame then that is how far "A" will travel. Obviously the rubber bump stop will compress some, maybe half it's height if it sees a hard hit. So you should be able to unbolt the rod from the axle at the "A" point and push the rod up by hand. Measure from the mounting point on the axle to the rod where it mounted to the axle. Once you lift the rod enough to be the same distance as between the bump stop and frame (plus a little for bump stop compression) that should be the max travel it will see during compression.

So the yellow arrow where the brake bias rod doesnt go up in proportion to the axel? It pivots around A? Like the red arrow?

Sorry Im just trying to make sure I have this right, Im trying not to screw myself.

Okay so I just went and took off A.

I didnt get it in this photo but the rod doesnt really move up that much at all, it pivots around A the higher it goes.
    IMG_7234.jpg

The rod never went past parallel, it bottomed out. Green line.

Thank you @Darty03 for the helping solve my issue.

Hmm you're right it does pivot there which would make what I said possibly not completely accurate. I sold my 1st gen a few years ago so I can't go look so I am going off of your picture and completely missed that. I THINK it would still be pretty close to showing the travel if you measure it like I mentioned but maybe someone else will be able to chime in too.

Hopefully this help with what I am trying to say

Looks like you got it before I posted my picture. No I don't believe it would ever go past parallel.

Of course that is what the forums are for.

Im taking the measurement from the bed to the top of the bar. I need to make sure I have clearance on top. For some reason I first thought the whole bar moved with the axel. Now, I think it only moves up to make the initial adjustment and then I think it just pivots on the axel from there.

Im good now though. I took a measurement off the bar maxed out and Ill base my measurements off that.

Oh nice! You're making your tank so you can still fit the spare tire!
    Super cool!
I have a tank out of a 1990 Ford F150 in the spot and I have to carry the spare in my camper. It's always in the way!

Yeah, def dont want to move or lose the spare. I already have an aux tank in the bed for the last couple of years and Im pulling that one and replacing it with this one.

Just to complete the circle of life. I test fitting with the tank and the bar maxed out.
    tank004.jpg

.5 inch to spare at the maxed out point. This notch is overkill, if I had to guess that rod is never going to move up enough to need these channel cut out, but whatever. Its there.
