Bed Step

    I purchased a bed step (Amazon) and right out of the gate, I can't get the supplied M10 bolts to fit in the holes in the frame. Specifically, the first bolt that goes in specifically where the step assembly slides over before you tighten down and insert the other two bolts.

    One hole seems to be ok, another hole allows the bolt to enter about halfway before stopping (not too sure I want to tighten it down for fear of stripping the inner threads) and that first hole mentioned above, i can't get the threads to start.

    Anybody come across this yet with the aftermarket steps?

    Same thing happened to me, so I reached my phone up and took a picture of the bolt holes and I found slag in two locations. I took the truck to a Toyota dealership close to where I live and they said they would have to charge me to remove the slag - they won't cover it under warranty. I took it to another dealership since I was on the road and they took care of it for me and installed the step for me. An impact wrench will go right through the slag. I can't seem to find the pictures that I had.

    Get a tap and trace the threads don’t force the bolt in you could break the bolt off.

    I had the same issue when I installed my bed step. Took a couple minutes to re-tap the threads. I happen to own a full tap & die set but you can pick up just a small metric tap kit on Amazon or at Home Depot for less than $15.

    Like others here said, don't force the bolt itself through the slag and definitely don't use an impact driver. If the bolt snaps you have a whole different problem to solve.

    What's the thread size aside from the M10- i'm assuming 1 for Fine?
