    @TacoTuesday1

I've used both King and 5100's. You keep saying "they suck, their thin". If your use case is high speed desert stuff then they are not the shock for you. For your average truck looking for an affordable shock that will handle slow speed and street driving well you can't beat their value, IMO. Yes, they are thin but that only comes into play during high speed with big whoops.

I just did a shakedown run at 55 down normal forest service washboards yesterday. Got out after about 5 miles of that and neither front nor rear where hot enough to bother me. A few years ago I was really hauling ass with a buddy. I was on Kings he was on 5100s. His 5100s got hot enough to melt the lower and upper bushing and blow the shock out. He never got pissed at the shock because he is smart enough to realize what we just did was way outside the use case for 5100s.

I get you not liking 5100's though. You had a bad experience with them. Not everyone else will. As far as those Kings go. Here's the front passenger shaft after the Dusy. Fuck King.

What springs did you run with the 5100s? What perch did you have them on? Aren’t 5100 and 5160 the exact same… aside the remote reservoir?

I ran stock and various OME springs.

believe me. I ain’t want to type on my phone.

Especially stuff that is already known. Like that guy the other day talking about foot bleeding his brakes not working, not using a pressure bleeder like you’re supposed to

I got exactly what I paid for. I paid nothing and got nothing. There is no free lunch.

my use case is daily with occasional wheeling up to moderate trails.

if I was pre running I would have at minimum long travel front with extended RCVs. I do not.

I don’t see the appeal of desert. But because I’ve never done it I can’t count it out. One day I’ll probably secure a ride or drive on it and see what it’s about to find out for real.

An off road truck like this is for the real world. It’s not a gladiator rubicon. It’s less than half the price and has IFS like a sedan. Of which I can name you countless sedans I’ve driven with better suspension than 5100.
Realistically, deserts are only a very small part of the real world, and people often drive very far to get to them sometimes.

if my truck is not the average truck I don’t know what is. I bought it making minimum wage and commute to work with it.

that is correct and yet another example. I went behind my buddy on 6112 that I installed for him. I was on 5100. It was the mildest trail you’ve ever seen. I wouldn’t call it a trail. Stock vehicles drive on it. My 5100 rode like shit and got hot. Come to think of it may have had early wear on the bushings. I could not keep up with him. I called him on the phone as there was reception and we did not have radios. I asked if he was going through the same thing. He was not. He was doing fine.

    Wow! I started a debate! Popcorn….
Thanks guys the rears are on. The 5100.
I am stoked, for the record. Anything’s better than the stock shocks that were 10 years old…

Overland outfitters did blind reviews on shocks in a YouTube episode. They said they would recommend the 5100 over the 5160 in the rear. The thin reservoir hose hinders the performance.

Inrecently put 5125s on my rear and havnt done the front on my 3rd gen. Only downside is the improvement in the rear makes me even more aware of the bouncyness in the front.

I've also "just did the rear" on mine. 4600 pencil shocks! About six months ago. They seem to be holding up so far.
Just bought a cordless impact wrench to make doing the front a little easier and hope to start on the front soon.
Correct me if I'm wrong , but doesn't the 4runner have different rear suspension?

Yes. 4Runners have 4-link and coils in the rear.

I wish to put the red Koni brand shocks on my relatives '11 single cab 4wd

Truck only has 111k on the originals factory and do not appear to be worn out yet or so I cannot tell

I did try 5100 on my gen1 in the front coils and they were on the suckyass side imo
    Pencil-thin garbage at a cost

Every single post from @TacoTuesday1 absolutely drips with contempt. As far as he's concerned everyone else on TW is a fuckin idiot and they'll never be on his epic level of knowledge. He can see for miles and we're all smashing our fingers with hammers or something

He'll drop into a thread and leave a one-sentence response with zero context or helpful alternatives of any kind

"Just use a pressure bleeder like a pro" (ok we get it, you have a pressure bleeder)

"Those shocks are thin bro" (Then suggest an alternative)

"Facts are facts" (whatever that means)

Constant, daily references to "smoking crack"

Classic projection from an insecure person. In order for him to feel smart everybody else has to be stupid right?

I'm not one to use the block function, but good lord I'm not reading the walls of rambling half-sentence text. I see his avy and keep right on scrolling

Glad to see I'm not the only one that uses that metric to see how much of an asshat someone is or isn't. Those facts are indeed facts. lol

Anyone using atleast a 1in block in the rear or a leaf spring that is either significantly thicker or has more travel than oem should also consider something longer like the 5125s. Regular 5100s in the rear are the same length as oem trd off-road shocks and don't even allow using the full range of the stock leaf springs. Also the 5125s mount body up which some think is less prone to damage and reduces unsprung weight.
