I got my truck with 198,000 miles four years ago and it’s got 280,000 now. There’s no sticker indicating when the timing belt was changed but it was a minimum of 82,000 miles ago. Any thoughts? I’ve heard there’s a sneak-a-peak method for checking to see if it’s worn.

I believe the interval was around 60K for a timing belt so I would throw one on with bothering with a sneak peak first.

I suggest only running an Aisin, Gates or maybe Dayco kit. Rockauto is usually my go to

There's an TW member that sells a very nice and reliable water pump and timing belt kit on Ebay. His TW name is Aircabinman i believe. Maybe someone else will chime in if my info is wrong, but it's a very good kit.

Here's the write-up you should use for the job. If you're up at the 90K mile mark, it's definitely time to start thinking about it. OEM belts can go longer (100-120K) but you probably don't know if you've got an OEM belt.

Step by Step Toyota Tacoma Timing Belt Replacement for 3.4L V6 5VZFE

And, you can likely get away with this slightly cheaper aircabinman kit (definitely go with one of his kits) which doesn't have a crank bolt. Technically you're supposed to replace the bolt, but I've never replaced mine and it's been fine. If you want to replace the bolt, the kit that @CrippledOldMan linked is the right one.

Those kits will be a little more expensive than completely aftermarket parts (like the partsgeek kit), but you'll be getting parts that will last the lifetime of the job, and won't require you to go in later to fix up the idler pulley or tensioner or something b/c the aftermarket one shit the bed.

Also, you'll need a few other things for the job:
    1. Two gallons of red coolant concentrate, to refill the radiator when it's reinstalled. (00272-1LLAC)
    2. Six gallons of distilled water - again, for the radiator.
