Bought a used 2018 tacoma trd off road in May 2024. It had not had the fuel pump recall done yet so I had the dealer swap the high p fuel pump. Yesterday, 11 months later, the high p fuel pump died and a delphi one cost me $1100 plus labor. Not to mention being stranded. Is there a warranty on toyota recall work?

That's a good question. I would think that there would be some level of warranty coverage on recall work involving the installation of new parts. But I doubt that warranty is long enough to do you any good with your situation but maybe I'm wrong. And in your case, you have already remedied the situation by doing the repair out of pocket versus letting Toyota address it.

I did see that Toyota will reimburse if an owner had to pay out of pocket for a repair that is addressed by a recall or special service campaign. But in your case, the recall work was already done and 11 months later the replaced part shit the bed. Good luck with this one, but I think you might be hosed here. Good luck

Here is a link to the thing I am talking about: What if you have previously paid for repairs to your vehicle for a specific condition outlined in a recall or special service campaign?

From Toyota website. Seems like you might have 12mo warranty.

I had a part replaced at an authorized Toyota dealership that was not covered under warranty. What warranty coverage do I have for this part?

The Toyota Service Part Warranty is in effect for 12 months, regardless of mileage, from the date...

I don't think the recall was for the high pressure fuel pump.

The fuel pump recall is for the low pressure fuel pump in the tank.

The high pressure fuel pump has a warranty enhancement program for fuel odor under the hood and a TSB to replace chirping high pressure fuel pumps that chirp while under warranty.

The recall should not have touched your HPFP. Also, how does a HPFP go “bad?” It’s mechanical and has very few things on it to go bad…I would think it it went bad it might wipe the cam lobe that drives the pump.
