I've been having this annoying, rattling, or a vibration sound that seems to be coming from up under the hood at mild or low acceleration and also, while the vehicle is idling while in park. It seems to be most prominent when the weather is cooler but here lately I've been hearing the noise more often than usual. I've opened up the hood while the engine is running to see if I can pinpoint anything but once I get back into the vehicle, I hear it more. It seems to be coming from under the hood, but it also seems to be coming from behind the dashboard area, closer to the glove compartment. Any suggestions?

What engine? If it’s the 4.0 V6 I am willing to bet it’s 100% normal, they all tick.
You could upload a YouTube video of the sound then post the link here and people will tell you if it’s normal

Yes sir it is the 4.0 V6. I've attempted to record the sound, but it's so faint coming from in the inside that it won't pick up. It almost sounds like it's something that's loose or broken. Maybe a motor mount or something.

Do a quick search for 1GR-FE ticking, there are tons of videos and tacomaworld threads, most noises are normal, on the driver side it’s some “PCV?” Valve hitting the intake, some say it’s the injector cleaning cycle, maybe it’s the lifters?! But most of the time it’s normal.
A broken motor mount is going to cause horrible motor vibes, probably would be described as worse than annoying.

Might be one of heat shields that are spot welded to the exhaust pipes and around the Cat's. The welds get rusty and let go and the noises start. Sometimes gently bending them a little by hand will quiet them. The 1GR has a bunch of them of different lengths on both sides.
