Changing my oil and noticed sludge and is a bit gritty inside when I take off oil cap. Trucks got 240k and runs good doesn’t seem to burn oil between changes. Just wondering what you all think ? Any input is appreciated

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Maybe run a 5 minute engine flush and let it drain overnight.

Not really. There are different opinions on what to do about it. Valvoline is promoting a product that is supposed to clean that up SLOWLY. The issue is as it cleans the oil filter starts to get plugged and you have no way of knowing when the filter goes into bypass and when it does that you are running as if there is no oil filter at all. If this was my truck I would buy filters from the dealer, they are less expensive than aftermarket and try the valvoline oil and replace just the filter at 500 miles, open it and look in the pleats and adjust from there. Will it clean it shiny new, no.

Looks about normal for an older vehicle that may have been neglected a bit on oil change interval

If I runs fine I wouldn't worry too much. There really isn't any magic product that will clean it out of there. Just let it roll

    Thank you for suggestions
I just changed my oil this morning and used the valvoline and a Toyota filter. Changing the filter sounds like a good idea.

Valve cover gaskets have likely been done once at this age + mileage

I wouldn't flush it with that kind of mileage. Keep up with oil changes and run it as is.

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

Avoid any "flush" or solvent products.
The problem with them is they are like taking a laxative - you don't have much control of what breaks loose or how fast.

Shorten up your oil change intervals, the detergents in the oil will clean the engine up gently over time, like adding more fruit to your diet.

Monitor the color of the oil when you (regularly) check it. If the engine has a lot of build up it probably turns dark fairly quickly.

After some oil changes you should find it starting to stay cleaner longer.

Highway driving where the oil gets up to full operating temperature helps the detergents work too.

    WELCOME!

agreed with others....stay away from "can/bottle promises"

    however
old mech taught me this trick
helped on a MightyMax truck i had with 260k
ATF is a detergent by nature

few days b4 your next oil change, pour a qt. of ATF in and drive around normally for those days
    then change oil/filter
its not a miracle cleaning but definitely looked better
