Roadtrip. The paid version $5. Tracks mileage, maintenance info, expenses, etc for multiple cars

here’s a more full screenshot but it has a lot of other options. Great app

I’m not an aero specialist but wouldn’t the open truck bed cause significant drag and affect a good portion of the bad mpg? Wondering if a bed cover would increase the mpg.

They used to have a show on TV that would scientifically determine if various things were true or not. I think it was called Myth Busters. They did a study on open truck beds and determined there is little to no drag with the tailgate closed because a bubble formed in the bed and the airflow went over the entire truck and bubble but there is drag with the tailgate open contrary to popular belief because the air was sucked into the bed. So they also concluded a bed cover does nothing compared to an uncovered bed with tailgate closed. They showed the actual airflow and why. You may be able to find that episode.

I have a bed cover, but don't have any before after mpg data. I cant imagine that Toyota didn't account for aerodynamics in the re-design but it seems like higher speeds has more effect on mpgs that other vehicles I have owned. Daytrip from Santa Fe to Valles Caldera NP (7,000 to 10,000+) got me 20.5 but I was only going 55mph.

Do you pay monthly for the app or something, or its one time buy?

It is/was a one-time $5 buy when I bought it years ago. Not sure if the business model changed since

I think that little roof overhang above the rear window helps with the airflow over the truckbed/tailgate.

every bit helps. especially across a fleet of millions.

if i saved my company 2% on their fuel bill, i would get rewarded with enough money to buy a trailhunter a day.
