Day 55. Headlights left on accidentally...

Hello All!

Is it normal on the 2023 Tacoma to have NO audible reminder for headlights left on after shutdown? I see a yellow flashing triangle light (I assume about the headlights?) and sometimes a “lights on” message, ...AND there is definitely an audible alert if the driver’s door is ajar. However, there is no audible alert for the headlights. Is this just the way it is? Or?

You left them on for 55 days? I would assume you would have noticed after at least day 3 lol. But my 2019 does not give an audible reminder either. I always see the reminder as I am closing the door

 

Thank-you for the fast reply!! I have only owned the 2023 Tacoma for 55 days. Still learning all the bells and whistles. My previous used vehicle purchase was 26 years ago. I'm old now and things have changed! LOL!!

Put them on the auto setting, and you'll never have to worry about that again.

 

My 2020 has a very annoying audible warning to turn lights off.

but they also turn off after 1 minute or I lock the doors.

 

On my 2017 without auto headlights, they work perfectly.

-- If I shut down with the lights on and then open and close a door, they automatically shutoff in 30sec. Same for the running light setting.
-- If I turn the lights on or touch the controls after the door is open, they shut off in 20min.​

So simple, so great.


The later model Tacos are different, but I think the non-auto function is the same?

 

I hear you on that one. I had a 1990 dakota for 23 years. Am a couple of months away from 80.!!

 

I’m not sure if it’s the same on the ‘23 but on my ‘17, even if I leave my headlights in the on position they will still automatically turn off at some point. Same with the interior lights. Some new technology I can get behind!

 

My 2023 you can set the headlight switch to auto and the lights turn on and off automatically. You can set how dark it is outside for the lights to turn on. The description of light settings starts on p.220 of my owners manual. Also highcountrytacoma is correct in above post, if just turning on not in auto they will turn off by themselves. You don't need another damn buzzing reminder to annoy others especially neighbors.

 

I think every vehicle ever made will turn the headlights off automatically - after the battery runs down!

 

Yup, my headlights shut off at some point if I forget them on.

My 2nd gen, if you turn off the engine, then open the drive door the lights go out. If you open the door, then turn off the truck, the lights stay on. Or even better, if you turn off the key and exit the passenger door, it doesn't turn off the lights... That case was a GF/Wife sitting in the truck with the heat running, before deciding to get out and go in the store or whatever instead of continuing to wait for me, lol. Order of operations is really important with my old Taco!

my 2nd gen lights are on if I tell them to be on. I turn them off.

same thing with the oven. If I turn it on, it is on.

 

Open the glove box.
Inside will be a book or books.
Read these books....

 

I got that beat.
If I stare at a red-light and think real hard I can make it turn green.
