Reading you just purchased this, out of curiosity how much did you pay?

I’m not going to lie, it’s pretty bad buddy. The flat strap tacked to the leaf perch is cringe.

I’d honestly be trying to get that thing back to where you purchased it from asap.

I paid 14k it was originally 13 but I bought it from dealership as is, it sucks I put that much money I saved for this outcome, I can trade into toyota for 9k but I’m not trying to lease a car. I’m gonna try to use some money to get some of the frame repaired.

You paid $14k for a 17 year-old truck? Did you buy it recently?

Looks like this frame was sprayed during the Toyota frame rust campaign circa 2011. (A 2008 wouldn't have had the plastic frame plugs in pictures 1 & 3 from the factory.) The spray is famous for giving a nice gloss black finish while the steel rots away on the inside.

yes I bought it March 1st I’m going to call the dealership and see if they will buy the truck back from me, I’m not sure what my options are, they never mentioned a rotting frame and the coating look like the frame was good to me… I put 4k miles on it already I traveled a lot not knowing about the frame rot… just left wondering

There’s sales tax in Ohio and I’m pretty sure they get a little extra pay from it as well.

    This....
I would try going to the sales manager / general manager & get a refund, you may have a leg to stand-on if a reputable dealer....
that truck is 100% unsafe, toast, should have never been put on the front line & sold....
    dont repair anything....

Send them an email if you have to, show them pictures 5 & 6, those are the ones they need to focus on, the other pics make you look like a crybaby in their crooked eyes....

The big question is are the low guys on the totem pole trying to hide it & get it sold & wash their hands of it, if the actual GM / owner saw the condition of what they sold, would their tone change & willing to get you out of it....

Shouldn't waste any time in reaching out to them. Tell them you want the vehicle racked up & have them actually inspect it with you so they can see the severity of it first hand....

Not just making decisions from behind their desk, theres nothing we can do for you, you bought it as is........
If they knew, & had the mind-set that were good with that & we will sell it....

Im 100% certain when they took it on on trade or purchased from auction, they had no idea it was clapped out...
Meaning they paid more than they should have & trying to re-coup their funds..

They do have the ability to internal a frame for you, thats always an option if you work the scenario correctly.
but I wouldnt want that truck, its not just the frame, its a total rust bucket but guess that what you get in the snow belt states...

Might be worth having a mechanic look at it and giving you something in writing saying it isn't safe for the road before you go back to the dealer

There’s been some good advice given so far. I’ll add this.

That truck needs to go back. Does the state of Ohio require an inspection prior to licensing and registration? Take it to a state inspection office and have them look at it and see what they say.

The longer you wait and the more miles you put on the worse the situation becomes for you.

Repairing that frame is going to cost you a chunk of change, if it’s even possible.

Don’t feel bad, the same scenario happens very frequently here. Someone buys a new to them Tacoma, is super excited and learns that they made a mistake. Chalk this up as a major learning experience and don’t fucking buy anything in the future without giving the truck a solid inspection. If that’s something you are uncomfortable doing bring someone who is and that you trust or pay a reputable shop to do it for you.

    Welcome to TW.

Then if all else fails during the meeting & you get no traction, you politely ask them if they would like the clapped out rusty frame pics & a poor review on their yelp page & on all their social media pages, POLITELY.......:D
Im not kidding, at that point you have nothing to lose....
    I would 100% BLAST them....
Thats shady shit that you would expect from a used car lot....
That should get their attention, go tomorrow.................

The dealer has the ability to send vehicles like this to an auction, should have never been sold to a customer...

Shitbag dealers sell crap like this all the time and get away with it under the “as is” terms in majority of states. The only recourse is dealer goodwill but they will tell OP to kick rocks. And hiring an attorney will cost more than the truck is worth fast.

I mean, Toyota was already shitty enough about the frame recall that happened for 2nd gen’s anyway. People knocked a rusted out portion of frame away and they’d blame the owner, like somehow being able to easily put a screwdriver through a frame is “normal”. And denying people with less than dime sized holes. Protecting the bottom line.

In the state I reside, even an "as is" dealer sale requires the vehicle passes safety and emissions. Apparently Ohio does not have anything but emission inspection from what I can see.
See if they will take it back, if not contact the Ohio dealers licensing office and see what can be done.
