    Hello all,

    I just got a 2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD V6 4.0l a week ago. It has 102k miles. First time owning a 4x4.

I learned how to engage it and went out to try. When I switched to 4H in the correct condition for it to switch, I get the green 4wd indicator, but there is a screeching noise that sounds like metal on metal or like when brakes are scraping when I am driving anything above 4mph. The 4L seems like it doesn’t have too much of an issue but I didn’t try it too long for fear of making the issue worse. When I switched back to 2H from 4H there was a clunk or thud when it changed that seemed like it had switched but I still have the screech/scraping when 4H is engaged.

I’m just learning and searching this forum but I thought it’d be best to just get help directly. Thank you in advance!

The clunk coming out of 4wd is fairly normal as the front driveline disengages and is often under tension.

The screech is concerning though, have you crawled under the truck just to make sure something isn't rubbing on the front driveshaft?

You can take a video and upload it to YT and then post it here. Being as you are a rookie 4x4'er it may help us all a little better.

Dm93 - No I got the truck and then been out of town. I read through your other forum post about the Diff and AAD. I will make sure that nothing is scraping the drive shaft (skid plate, etc.) I also need to do all my fluid flushes and update you all hopefully here in a couple weeks. Thankfully it drives fine in 2wd. I’m also planning to own this for my life so I’m committed long term to the project. Thank you for your help!

Canadian Caper - definitely I will once I do the routine maintenance and driveshaft inspection. Thank you! Fricken awesome community!
