    Hey!
    wondering what my options are.
Was replacing front shocks with bilstein 5100s. Did the rear shocks last weekend.
in removing the old front shocks, things are quite rusty, lower shock bolt was really rusted.
I removed the ball joint pin, nut and bolt very corroded. Put 19mm socket to the nut, and wham! First pull on the nut to break it lose, strips it. Nut totally stripped…
Tried to recover with vice grips, no dice.

    What are my options?
Try a stripped nut extractor socket?
Sawz all the nut off / maybe bolt too and replace the ball joint?
How easy is it to replace a ball joint?
Anyone ever deal with a stripped ball joint nut before when doing shocks?
    Thanks

    4 run, 2 don't
    Picture?

My go-to lately is just to weld a nut on something to wrench something off.

    Reserected from the dead.
Just get a new ball joint. They are $40-$60. Easy to change.

Sounds like the the threads are stripped between the nut and ball joint shank.
I'd cut the nut off. There may be threads left on the shank of the ball joint. But the nut has to come off no matter what happen.
Personally, I don't toy around with steering components, for safety reasons.
I'd go for a new ball joint. They usually come with a new nut too.

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
I had one very bad experience with a lower ball joint on a grand marquis. Cut the threaded rod part with a sawz all and then had to drill out the center of the rod and was able to beat it down and out.

Once you get the stud cut off, you can rent a ball joint press at the auto parts stores.
I'd replace it and go ahead and do the other side while you're at it.
I did mine in November. The first one took a little longer, chasing down the appropriate tools, the second one only took a few hours.

Going to try new ball joint. I think I’ll get two. Worried this will happen on the other side too…

    Keep us posted!
I only did my lowers, the uppers felt fine. In fact, my lowers weren't in too bad of shape for 170,000 miles, but it was something I could check off my list!
