4th gen Tacoma aftermarket audio solutions?

What is everyone doing to upgrade the audio in 4th gen Tacoma's, since the radio is fixed to the dash? I'm considering this Trailhunter, but the factory audio doesn't cut it for me.

JL Audio Fix 86?

What about subwoofer options and mounting locations? The hybrid Tacoma battery takes up much of the back seat space.

What about factory JBL vs non JBL upgrade options in the 4th gens?

I kept the factory radio in my 3rd gen, but added a JL Stealthbox, Focal speakers and Kicker key 200.4/500.1 amps.

 

The system itself is probably extremely similar to the previous gen, just as 3rd gen was extremely similar to 2nd gen.

if you have the jbl system, you will need to contend with that interface but it may be identical to the 20-23 models. Or it may be entirely different connectors.
If it's non-jbl, wire up that same equipment as before and call it a day! Just may need a new subwoofer solution (I'm not familiar with the storage space with the battery)

 

lol, i never realized how high the start button is. is there already a frustrated-owner thread on hitting the wipers while turning the truck on/off?

jl's option is one, there's also a few other options that do something similar, though not as in-depth as jl.

 

If you end up going with a 4th gen that has the factory JBL system, I'd personally start with the BeatSonic Encore amp before anything else. It's plug and play and installs in less than 30 min. I've read it provides a very noticeable improvement in 4th gens, particularly with factory JBL. It made a nice improvement to the sound in my 3rd gen with factory JBL system.

Will it compete with a true stand-alone aftermarket amp, speakers, sub?...No...but for the money and ease of install (and ability to return to stock), I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

Also, I can't speak to how the BeatSonic amp works with non-JBL systems. I don't know if it would have the same impact without the factory JBL amp and sub.
