I just picked up a 2012 2wd access cab from my buddy (he upgraded to a Rivian). I'm excited to dive into the Tacoma world and have wanted one for a long time, especially one that had more of a "knockaround" feel to it. This truck will mainly be an around-town vehicle for hauling mulch, picking up FB marketplace buys, and the like. Perhaps the occasional joyride to the local watering hole.

However, I also do a fair bit of hiking and dispersed camping. I understand that a 4wd would have been preferable for that, but that's not the deal I had. Unrelated but related, my gf and I share a 2016 Highlander Limited with all-terrain tires as our primary vehicle. Both of us are keen to keep it cleaner (although it does look great dirty) and are hoping to get the Tacoma to a place where we feel comfortable taking it out on forest/dirt/gravel roads to get to the trailhead or campsite, which here in CO does involve navigating the occasional rock or two. That said, I'm not overlanding or offroading in this truck.

My question for you all -- what wheel and tire sizes can I do on this truck? I'd like to go bigger both for performance on wilderness roads and for aesthetics. Whichever is the max size I can do, I plan on getting all-terrain tires.

Current size is: 215/70R15. I believe everything (suspension, etc.) is stock setup. Also, around here on Marketplace/CL, everyone sells 6 lug wheels. Where's a good place to look for a deal? I am willing to invest some but not a ton, since this is a knockaround.

Thanks. Those look really good. It's a bit of a relief because I wasn't quite ready to spend the extra quiche on going up a wheel size plus new tires. I'm going to head down to Discount Tire this week to see what options I have. I will post a picture when they're on.

Out of curiosity, what's the biggest wheel size that can fit? @TheBigKahuna -- I saw you put on Highlander wheels. Any issues with the change?

Those are perfect. I'll see about getting them. @TacoGlenn -- the rims you have look legit. Where'd they come from?

Ended up going with the Nokian nAT 235/75/r15. I’m pretty pleased. I got them today so I don’t have any observations about performance, yet. They look much better imo.

@TacoGlenn — I inquired about the M55s with two different shops, Discount Tire and a local one. DT said it showed that there were only 16 total available nationwide and the other said they were unable to find a set and guessed that they had been discontinued.

    Josie approves.
