Is having the timing cover leak fixed worth it even under warranty?

I have another post from another person vehicle. I have a 2017 trd 4x4 and the srv mgr said it would cost ballpark 4k as they have to drop the engine on a 4x4. He said they dont all leak but they do have a few they see. Said it was an issue and they seal the cover with a new type of gasket. Anyways, he told me on the other non 4x4 tacoma that was done, that they literally have to evac the ac, new orings on injectors, seals, all kinds of shit. It was covered. Im thinking, since the chains on these dont have to be replaced according to the sr tech and mgr, there is no reason to be that intrusive on a leak that a few hours and a 15 dollar high end rtv cant handle. I have the full warranty as well, but my experience has always been Murphys Law... nothing good comes from tearing shit apart and usually more issues. Thoughts? Hopefuly i dont have to deal with this crap but I might take the simple way out... lol

Mine leaked, extended warranty paid the bill, all good with no new leak 30,000 miles later. I know a few others who have had this repair without issues. I don’t think RTV is suitable. If your dealer has experience, I’d have it repaired using your warranty.

I vote no, its not worth having that much torn apart to chase what is usually a small seep. I have a 2016 that I bought with 55k that has the leak (didn't know that was a thing to look for at the time). I cleaned it and put some RTV on the seam. Stopped the leak for a while. It is seeping again now, but the RTV slowed the leak down. I haven't noticed any loss on the dipstick.

I have done a lot of research on the repair. Some have been fine, but some leak again even after the invasive repair was done, in some worse cases the tech applied too much sealant and clogged the oil screen which led to engine failure. So its a choice between risking the repair, or cleaning up some oil leakage from time to time..

Here is a good video showing the repair on an engine similar to ours. Towards the end of the video he does state that the leak does not affect the longevity of the engine. Good luck with the choice!
