Hello everyone. 1st post so go easy on me. My son recently purchased a 2017 Tacoma SR5 V6 RWD from a friend. It has a lift kit and nice found system. He wants to get that nice throaty sound like the TRD, but his broke a$$ can’t afford anything now, and I’ve spent enough money fixing little things here and there. My question is…have any of you tried the exhaust tip resonator tips and had good results. I’m not expecting a miracle, but a small upgrade in the engine hum for little money would be nice. What do you all suggest?

Nothing about the 3.5L is "throaty". It is a small displacement V6 that likes to rev high. There really isn't much you can do without spending $500-800 for an exhaust system.

I suggest your son save his money and replace the exhaust system. They’re a lot of them out there go on YouTube and find the sound he is looking for.

They are called fart cans for a reason. He'll be happier, and it'll sound better, if he saves $100 a month for 6 months and buys an actual exhaust. As others said, it's a small V6, so manage expectations. Even with the TRD Pro I would not have called my Tacoma "throaty" but it did have a sportier sound to it than a non Pro.

That’s kinda what I thought but figured I’d ask anyway. Ok well, he’s got to save some money. It’s actually a good life lesson for him to save up for a significant purchase rather than blowing all his money on needless purchases and not even notice his bank account is dwindling. Thanks everyone.

Keep an eye on the classifies (BST section) here and the regional section for you. Pro exhausts show up from time to time at great prices.

The other option is to get a nearly new Stock take off and drop in a Borla muffler.

The life lesson was buying a Toyota. Job done.

Spending hard earned money for a better sounding truck? Not in my books, I prefer function over form, but ymmv.

A v6 Tacoma sounds like a v6. Appreciate it for what it is. If he has to have a throaty exhaust get a domestic full size v8 truck or car.

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

Watch the BST section or FBMP for a take off PRO system.

Ultimately it either sounds like a V6 or a loud V6, no matter how much you spend it will never sound like a 440 Chrysler V8.
