My dad took my brother and I on that trail as kids in his '89 Chevy Silverado with a shell and carpet kit in the back. All I remember is all of us screaming "we're gonna die!!!" As my brother and I looked out the window of the camper shell wondering" where the hell's the land!?" My dad had to pull in the mirror on one side and the other side had less than a foot from the edge of the cliff. Now that I'm older, and I have Tacomas and a 4Runner, I've been curious about that trail. My dad tells me not to do it. Was it super sketchy at times? Perhaps, while trying to pass others on the trail? What would you recommend to be prepared for or expect?

It’s not bad at all. A stock 4x4 taco can make it all the way.

we were there wednesday-friday, 3 nights.. not much for other people till Saturday morning on the way out of the park, tons of Jeeps.. Its def tight in spots but my buddy in a 200 series land Cruiser had no issues even with his Patriot trailer.. Couple technical spots but overall it was pretty mellow.. There is one hell of a drop off on a lot of it tho.. lol

WIND.. holly hell it was windy.. prepare for wind, it was hard to cook and our tents were shaking! One buddy slept in his truck drivers seat one night cause his tent collapsed.. probably 50-60 MPH winds? give or take.. this is March so could be different at other times of the year..

If you are used to wheeling, it's a relatively unchallenging road. You should never need a spotter, and only 3 spots require 4HI going up or 4LO going down. That is if the area hasn't recently seen a lot of rain, and you beat the motor grader to the washout spots, then all bets are off. As far as "4WD High Clearance" roads go in the area, the road gets maintained frequently and is usually in good condition.

The maintained road condition is still rough in spots, and a stock suspension setup will experience shock fade, even with airing down, so the going can be slow. I would not plan to drive more than roughly 30 miles a day on stock suspension, if you want the experience to stay fun.

It is a epically beautiful drive, though, and well worth putting on the bucket list. My avatar pic was taken on the road near Potato Bottom.

Last time my wife and I were in Moab camping it was super super windy. Felt like the roof top tent was going to get ripped off the tacoma. We got lost the first day out there trying to find one of the campsites and ended up in a pretty difficult technical trail. Some how we took a wrong turn but managed to find the spot. We had a blast
