So is the the hose above still "very hard" after the thermostat has opened? When compared to the lower hose.

Do you have any accessories blocking the radiator, or is the front of the truck all stock?

At idle, the fan keeps the engine cool. At speed, the air flowing through the radiator is primary cooler.

I checked and it’s like what you said the top is extremely hot but the bottom is only warm

So today I got a new after market rad and I was about to fix it on the car but unfortunately it has some differences so its not an exact match for the OEM one .. so i went to plan B like I said before earlier I had flushed the rad but the difference was so small but this time I took out the rad and cleaned it with a garden hose and some degreaser.. the rad was full of junk i can say, then I test the car again on the highway and there was about 48F difference in temperature (lower of course) like but I don’t think it is a fair comparison cus today I tested the car at 9:00 pm the weather is fairly cool not like when I drive on the highway at every day 2:00 pm
What it’s the normal temperature rate on a highway?

Are you saying you flushed the inside of the rad or externally between the fins? Either way at 180k and 17 years old experiencing radiator problems you're best off just replacing it. Just hop on rockauto and order the OEM Denso one for 130 bucks shipped to come in early next week and swap it out. Go to the nearest toyota dealer if you want to pay a bit more and get it probably same or next day. Return whatever aftermarket one that would need modification unless its a legitimate upgrade that you think is necessary.

I tend to keep tabs on coolant temp since I have an 06 w/ the original head gaskets. I typically see 186F highway and around town this time of year. Pulling a small (1200#) trailer: 196F, driving through Death Valley in the middle of the summer: 209F.
Still the original radiator but I did swap out the WP, tstat, fan clutch and coolant, 150Kmi.

Within the normal temp range how accurate do you think the temp gauge is?

Between 184~209F I couldn't see any difference in the needle position.

So a bunch of sludge like "junk" came out? Seems like you found the source of the problem.

It would take multiple flushes to get that thoroughly cleaned, as well as the rest of the system.

With the age, replace with oem, or better.

My order of choice would be Denso/OEM then probably koyorad and CSF if I needed an actual upgraded one since I've seen some threads about their all aluminum models. That price I mentioned was DENSO shipped from rockauto, at 1/3 the dealer price seems like a no brainer to me.

    Update

So today I replaced the radiator with an after market for 70$ the OEM found expensive 315$ and I tested the car in city and it was actually very impressive I got max 155F compared to the older radiator I used to get 192F in the city

some will say why u didn’t get the OEM from Rockauto the problem I live in Dubai so + the shipping costs it will be be +300$ and a big chance to receive it damaged

155F is low, the thermostat should keep it in the 175-190 range.

yea it’s too low but I don’t know whats the reason behind that, my thermostat opens at 82C
Any ideas what could be the reason of that low temperature?

Pretty much all it can be is a thermostat that isn't fully closing or is opening too early as that is what regulates coolant temp.
