I’m looking for Toyota Tacoma engine suggestions—mine’s on its last legs and I need to decide between rebuilding or replacing. I’ve been seeing a lot of listings for used options, including a supposedly reliable 2007 Toyota Tacoma engine that caught my eye. Anyone have experience swapping in an older engine like that into a newer model? I want something dependable but don’t want to run into compatibility issues or hidden problems.

The biggest single swap problem IMHO is all the electronic sensors and wiring.

If it doesn't match up, suddenly it's not PnP

Makes a challenge putting an older model in a newer truck in particular.

So. Lots of research would be required to insure a smooth swap outside of a like for like application.

    Spacifics matter.

Some areas the year can matter smog compliance/registration wise.

A used motor is only is as good as the sellers word without varified proff or warrentie.

    Rebuilt =
    more $
    less risk

    Used =
    Maybe... less $
    Maybe... more risk

    Spacifics matter

    What years?
    Smog laws?
    Is resale important?
Do yu have more dollars than cents/sense (or other way around)?
    Condition of the truck?
