I Have a 2nd gen as my primary. Soon I'll be getting a new truck. Im torn between keeping the 4.0 / 6 cyl. for the hunting camp or finding it a good home for it. its a great daily driver w/ backup cam, premium audio, apple car play, list goes on as you guys know. those are just the comfort features 3" proper lift OME heavy duty leaf springs, halo running lights, try pro grill, yada yada yoto. would hate to let it sit for the 15 trips out of a year.

    any thoughts

I think it’s mostly the cost factor that determines if you keep or sell. On a vehicle that just mostly sits you still have to pay insurance, registration, maintenance, repairs and misc. If you don’t mind the cost and can afford it then keep it if you want.
I personally have had a third vehicle (truck) for many years although I don’t have one currently. I used it when one of my vehicles was down, to haul things, hunting/fishing/camping trips, and a lot of other uses. I like having a third vehicle even if it just sits most of the time. So if you can afford it, have a place to keep it (not parked on the street) and you want to hang on to it then keep it.

If you're replacing a truck with a truck, I bet you a dollar that six months from now the old truck will have been sitting untouched for 60 days.

My truck got demoted from dailying by a compact two-seater, and even then its a rare day where I need to extract the truck from the garage for weekend errands. If I replaced vehicle class with the same vehicle class, its game over for the old car. It'll just sit and rot until you finally are ready to let it go. I'd let it go before it develops flat spots on the tires.

For a good while we had 3 vehicles and 2 drivers. A truck, an CUV and a sports car. All very different purposes and rotated quite well.

Unless I had a specific need for two of the same type vehicle, and one that required a reasonable rotation plan, it would never happen for me. So my vote is sell it.

The real question is if you like the old so much, why buy the new?

Only get rid of something that's easy to replace.

I'm gonna say keep, just so your 1st and 2nd posts on the site don't turn into B/S/T posts :anonymous:
Obviously we can argue for or against keeping or selling it, but it really has zero influence on what the best decision for YOU is. My useless opinion is keep it; you'll regret letting it go if things go south with the new truck, and if you don't, well, at that point you'll be more at peace at letting it go when things work great with the new truck.

We outgrew the Tacoma in 2016, and I bought a 4x4 crew cab F150. At the time I could have traded my '07 Tacoma and bought a new F150 or I could have kept the Tacoma and bought a 2-year-old used 2014 F150. It was about the same money either way. I opted to keep the Tacoma as a 3rd vehicle.

Best decision I ever made. I actually drive the Tacoma almost every day and tend to drive the bigger truck when I need a bigger truck or are driving on a longer trip. The Ford may only be driven one or 2 days some months but in a years' time it gets more miles on it. We drive it for longer trips usually when pulling our small travel trailer. We did a 7000-mile road trip to Montana and back last July. I changed the oil in it when we got back and haven't changed it since. We have another similar trip planned for this June and I'll change it right before we leave.

The bigger, more expensive truck gets fewer miles and will last longer. I ain't afraid of miles on the Tacoma. It's at 255,000 right now. At this point I can't sell it. My 17-year-old granddaughter has dibs on it when I die; or stop driving it.

I've also found it to be great having a 3rd vehicle. I have 2 adult children and 5 grand kids. I haven't driven my Tacoma in over 6 weeks. My son hit a deer and drove it for over a month while his car was in the shop. The day he bought it back my daughter picked it up and has been driving it for the last 10 days while her car gets some work done. I hope to get it back by the end of the week.

I think you answered your question. Sell it.

I’d say keep it for the next six months at least, as you break in your new truck, especially if there is nothing wrong with it. Insure it lightly, liability-only, and see if it comes in handy.

If you sell it in 6 months you will make a better return anyway, given the current situation.

The OP hasn't been back since October 4th of last year. Tacoma must be gone if he's not hanging out with the rest of us in here, right?

Fair point. When people resurrect threads, I honestly never notice until later that the discussion started long ago.
