I had 250K on my 2nd gen and only replaced them because I was doing the parking brake cables and had it all apart...Still had mm's of pad left.

Yeah I checked my fluid and it's right under the max line. I know it was all flushed 4 years/30K ago at the frame replacement. Hoping it's nothing major.

Any audiophile assistance? I looked in the audio forum section and didn't see any general discussion threads.
My mom has a 150,000 mile, 2014 rav4 with a dead headunit. It needs to be simple setup and layout and she still uses FM radio primarily. I told her to work with Crutchfield because they have really good support and will even video chat if you need install help. Well they tried to upsell her to some $600 setup with some necessity BS with over $300 in install parts.

It doesn't need to be fancy, just functional and able to integrate her phone.
    Needs to have the following:
    carplay/android auto
    physical volume knob
retain steering wheel controls and bluetooth function. (difficult to find)

I was looking at this unit

The head unit had issues in my aunts RAV4, she ultimately decided to trade it in but there's a place in new York you could ship it to for a rebuild. I unfortunately don't recall the name.

i found a rebuilder for the and use this as a core. I figure i would update to have phone projection. She isn't very tech saavy and doesn't like using their TomTom or phone to direction so projection would be nice.

This place is about a tennis ball's throw from my office, but there's a ton of options around.

    https://www.soundfxonline.com/pages/Car-Audio.cfm

Are you looking for advice on what to get, or help on the install?

I've had fine enough luck with a wireless carplay adapter, but the wireless carplay absolutely saps phone battery life. I ran into the issue where any longer than 20 minutes, and I would have to plug it in, so why bother with wireless at that point anyway? My day to day commute is so short, it takes a minute to connect and would fail maybe 5% of the time. So I use it still, but mostly now just use bluetooth. I have my phone set to automate when connected to bluetooth, trigger play music from X playlist. BUT That's using a third party wireless adapter, integrated might be a lot faster/smoother.

    @Brownmatthall has a Joying right?

    https://www.amazon.com/JOYING-2013-...2&sprefix=2014+rav4+head+unit,aps,213&sr=8-13

^^ That might do the trick. There's a bunch of chinesium options on Amazon otherwise, all of which I would probably say are about the same reliability/risk.

I do, I like it well enough and it performs leagues better than the factory junk it replaced. Especially at the price I got it for

My parents are a 1000 miles away but one of my groomsman is a tech and will install it for me.

Headunits are more complicated than they were in high school. I can buy a headunit, but i don't understand all the harness needed to integrate factory options of a 2014 base model Rav4
I need all the adaptors to make the following still work.
    NEEDED/RETAIN INTEGRATION:
    -factory bluetooth
    -factory steering wheel controls
    -factory backup camera
    -carplay/android auto (wired is fine)
    -physical volume knob

    NOT NEEDED/RETAIN INTEGRATION:
    -wireless carplay/android auto
    -factory XM/Sirius Radio
    -Zero audio upgrade needs.

My joying retained everything except the Sirius antenna which I don't use anyway. Steering controls, back up cam, wireless carplay and audio all work surprisingly flawlessly with no extra harnesses or adapters beyond what joying gives you. I don't know if they still make it but mine has a volume knob as well

Just went through this with Cupcake's 2014 Rav4, been a while coming.

I got a Pioneer unit for about $250, doesn't have a physical knob but otherwise seems to check your boxes. Install with the adapters/interface/etc was about $300, I just had the shop do it. If you're interested I'll get the model#

Forest fires are following me. Yesterday I left work with a few little fires within 10 ft of my car and now there is one 2 miles away(that two miles is through some very combustible woods.

I put too much work into the matrix to let it burn down
