    3rd member out of the truck ready for my gear guy to install the Yukon rebuild kit. The fluid was clean and clear, ring gears are still in great shape and original rear brakes still have quite a bit of life left in them for 254k, surprisingly. This is the last piece of the puzzle. Can’t wait to get this finished up. Spent quite a bit more money than I anticipated with everything, but Im ok with that.

    Looking good. Rear brakes tend to wear much slower as the fronts do most of all the braking on these trucks.

    Yes sir @Toyoda213. Ive went through multiple sets of front pads and a few sets of rotors throughout the 22 years of my ownership of this truck.

    Here’s the worn out noisey bastard that was in the rear end making all that racket. The right side looked good still. Had a little wear, not like this one.

    @Sabbathu .........

    Rock Auto had the cheapest kit. Part # 14266. Labor is what was expensive.

    Thanks for the info, Blakeus!
    My mechanic told me my noise was from the rear diff as well. So, I'm going to take that ammunition back to the dealer and see what they say. I'm still under my certified used car drivetrain warranty. More likely, they will replace the entire differential. Do you know if replacing the entire differential, the bearings are part of that too?

    The bearings came with the kit. What year is your truck? Looks like you have a newer Tacoma than mine. Mine is a 2000.

    There are differences in the years, for sure. But, what you're describing is very similar. Just trying to track down a mystery.
