Got my current Taco a little over a year ago, and the driver's rear wheel bearing went out recently. It was evidently replaced before, and apparently some absolute monkey without any of the proper press tools went to town with an angle grinder to remove the old bearing and race. My axle shaft has a nice gouge that I'm not too worried about, but this spring washer that goes in between the retainer and inner race has this big cut in it as well. I was REALLY hoping this would be a quick weekend job since I already have the parts I needed from the other side, but I wasn't anticipating horrible aftermarket work.

So the question is, do we think this guy is up to the task of being reused, or do I have to wait until next week to get a new one? I'm really tempted to just put it back in, but someone else chiming in might make me feel better about it. Looks like it could be important for bearing preload, hence my concern.

Also worth noting that the grease in this bearing was slowly mixing with axle fluid due to aforementioned monkey damaging the axle tube and using a crappy aftermarket seal, so Im 99% sure that this washer didn't cause the failure, but I am worried about it shortening the life of my new bearing.

Technically, a Belleville washer can be reused as long as it hasn't been flattened or deformed. That said, the cut on this one looks pretty deep—almost all the way through. Personally, I’d play it safe and grab a new one.

I looked up the cost of that washer.... about $7. I wouldn't take the chance of using a damaged $7 washer given to the cost/time of installing a new bearing.

Yeah, hard to disagree with you there. Only problem is that I sort of needed to get to work on Monday lol. Ubers it is I guess...

Update: after calling the 3 nearest Toyota dealerships I managed to find exactly 1 washer 25 miles away. Gonna be a long bike ride, but still a win.
