Need help finding where it goes

 

Get under the truck and start feeling around up on the top of transmission where you can't see. There's a couple plugs right on the transmission, one toward the middle and one toward the rear. They're both hard to see and you have to feel around for them.

 

What's not working in the truck?

 

Maybe the 4WD indicator from the trans

I found the same situation on my '96 when doing the clutch. ultimately, it did not connect to anything and I never got even a good suggestion to what it could go to. 4x4 indicator works fine, and all O2 sensors plugged in.

 

also have a couple unused connectors like that in the transmission tunnel of my 96

 

Wiring Diagram may help. And, Toyota wiring harnesses often have connectors for options that did no come with your truck, or features that came with a previous model year, or features on a FourRunner but not a Tacoma (many interchangeable parts).
My 2000 PreRunner, for example, had unused connectors for a clock, for a lighted ignition lock, and (possibly) an electric remote mirror (not certain about that). Wish I could find one for a glovebox light! Yours might power a shift indicator light. Or a 4WD function (even if you don't have 4WD). Or, the OverDrive function. Wiring Diagram! Take your VIN to a Toyota Parts Counter for help.

only thing i can think of if IF your rig is equipped with this push-button feature on the transfer stick
