Should I go back to an OEM exhaust or is there a better aftermarket? I have a 2012 tacoma, PreRunner trim with the 4.0 V6 in it. When I first got it I was just getting into working on my own vehicles and at the recomendation of a friend I swapped the exhaust for a Flowmaster 717881 FlowFX Cat-back Exhaust. It was a fun, cheap, and easy swap but after a couple of years I've realized its kind of annoying volume-wise and the tacoma's engine doesnt seem to have that great of a sound. What do ya'll recomend I do? (First time using the forum so sorry if this isnt the best post)

Stock or you could get one of the non-loud Flowmasters like I think the 70 series?

    A) Most 6 bangers don't sound pleasing to the ear when amplified.
    B) I'm not aware of any aftermarkets that have mass-produced a reliable helmholtz chamber - which is absolutely needed if you intend to run loud without the fart-can drone sound. I am aware of one fabricator that makes them custom. Actually, I never even heard of helmholtz until I started reading up on exhausts for four cylinder cars.

Go stock or look up dirtydeed's fab shop.

I don't think I could ever make myself go back to a stock exhaust, but it sounds like a good time to sound deaden the cabin :). Depending on the exact noise you are trying to get rid of, adding a resonator might also help.

Just go with an aftermarket option — it’s cheaper, and any exhaust shop can weld it in for a pretty low cost. I’ve got a Flowmaster 40 Series Delta Flow on mine. It sounds great, definitely louder than stock, but not obnoxious. If you go with anything higher in the series than the 40, you’ll probably be really happy with it.[IMG]

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
I grew up with V8s. You can't do anything that will make a V6 sound as good...at least under 7k RPM.

Besides, these days, you get very little benefit from aftermarket exhausts anymore.

Aftermarket exhaust on a Tacoma sounds like shit. Go stock or buy a V8 Tundra

They cost 600+ but it will fit right and last a long time without rusting out
