I live in Atlanta have enjoyed whitewater canoeing for thirty plus years. I recently bought a 2020 Tacoma SR5 4WD to haul my boats and camping gear to rivers in GA, TN, AL and NC. I installed a Yakima Overhaul HD rack. I've been pleased with the rack. I've hauled my 14 ft Dagger Caption and a 16 ft. Blue Hole OCA together without a problem. I've been able to get out this spring several times on the Upper Chattahoochee and the Chattooga. Looking forward to when more Forest service campgrounds open and I can do some overnighters.

I did my college internship in Ohiopyle State Park in SW Pennsylvania. I’d paddle a lot on the Lower Youghigheny. Also big sandy, cheat, cassleman and some local creeks when water levels permitted. I paddled a couple of wave sports back then.

hi, I’m looking at this rack for my 2020 dcsb for hauling my canoe, and I was concerned about the roof clearance/overhangs. Your set up looks great though.
I’d be moving a 16,6 tripping Kevlar though with likely a flatter profile than what you’ve got mounted in that pic. Any chance you’ve got a picture with your 16 loaded? Thanks!

I cant find a pic but my old Mohawk 17 ft tripper lays nicely across w/o any issues. I'll try to get a pic shortly.

I don't have a picture with my 16 ft. Blue Hole on the Overhaul rack. The rack cross bars are raised to the their highest setting in the pic I posted. The Dagger Caption is a boat with a lot of rocker which requires that height setting for the end deck to clear the top of the cab. The rack could be set lower for a canoe with less rocker. I recommend going with the 68" cross bars if you're planning on carrying two wide canoes on the rack. They have 60" cross bars available, but they were not wide enough for my boats.

Ran the New River from Glade Creek to Fayette Station this weekend (two nights and three days). Two rafts - 14' and 15' . Didn't respect the river and swam a few times but good times were had all around

I grew up whitewater canoeing and rafting in Virginia and WV. Now 25 years later I'm easing back into the water with some kayaks my wife and I picked up. No whitewater for now. We've been enjoying exploring the secluded mountain lakes of north eastern and north central WA state.

How was living in WV? Had a great first experience recently and my wife and I have thought about the move. We don't mind the seclusion and lack of development

I grew up in Virginia but I lived in Huntington WV during school rotations from around 2001-2003. I loved it. Mountain biking, camping, rafting was all right there or close. People were very friendly. I probably would have stayed if I'd found a job there out of school. The tourism and the healthcare industries sustain a lot of the state economically these days.

Was perusing some other threads on TW and can’t believe I didn’t find this sooner. Awesome to see all the boats and others interests in water sports. Been into rafting/kayaking myself for over 30 years, mostly local rivers in Oregon and SW Washington as my regular runs. Decided to get a Sotar Legend in 2019 just before our trip on the MF Salmon in Idaho in mid-June. Love this thing! I also have a hard shell and IK plus my old Maravia, which collects more dust now. Picture taken on the wild and scenic section of the Rogue river last October.
Anyway, greetings to my follow water rats!

Is this tread too old? Any whitewater people out there??
Whitewater kayaking is my passion but so is off-roading in my Tacoma. Sometimes I try to combine some good 4x4 action and kayaking in the same day. I do a little rafting as well.
