I am new to Tacoma World, but I searched and came up empty about forums on roll bars. Does anyone know where to find an old school REAL rollbar for a Tacoma 3RD gen like the back to the future truck? Everything I've found so far is fake over priced junk that attaches to the bed rail and most even allow tono covers...not what I'm looking for at all. Attached is what I'm looking for, but 3rd gen. Any help is appreciated! Thanks everyone!

Welcome. Unfortunately, I think you're looking for a Unicorn. I don't think anyone makes such a thing as there really isn't a market for it. Also, mounting to the plastic bed might be problematic, the grid support system of the bed makes fishing bolts tough at best.

Maybe a fabrication shop with the capability to bend larger tubing could fab something up?

    Good luck on your quest.

Visit a welding shop and have them make some up for you. I had a set of single 4 inches roll bar on my old 1979 GMC 4x4 pick up with the Bush lights mounted and the machine looked awesome. Miss those days.

If you want real, you have to find a fab shop that is willing to cut up your bed and attach frame mounts.

Which is why most people go fake.

I've never heard of an off the shelf REAL rollbar like these. Aren't they just a LIGHT bar?

Here's a pic of a marty mcfly build on a more period accurate Toyota Pickup. looks just bolted through the bed's sheet metal.

Yes, while I am guessing the definition is in the mind of the beholder.
A real roll bar would be just that,,, a frame mounted set of bars that are proven capable of withstanding the weight and force of a rollover.
A light holder that could look real and be held with bread ties,,, but damn it looks koo.

My 12 year older cousin always ran stuff like this on his trucks, lol. Started with a Tan toyota pickup with the double tube, but ended up with one like this on a later truck (might been an f150). Always looked super cool, but yeah, they're a light bar, not rollover protection.

    Wow! Trips! That's a whole-nother level!
I had some light holders on my 1982 Toyota pickup with some JC Whitney lights,,,, all the way down to the wires being poked in to the fender gaps :D

Welcome to the forum! I had a roll bar for my 93 toyota and it's not a real roll bar. It mounted to the bed and the top of the wheel wells. As others have said, it's mostly a light bar made from 4-5 inch tubing. You could have a fabricator build something for you and cut through the bed to mount to the frame, but tbh I don't know if there are any important things below the bed (gas line) that would prevent you from doing that.
I remember it was a bear to just bolt on the original light bar to my 93 due to the tight spacing below the bed. I recall that I took that roll bar from a ford ranger at that time and it fit perfectly for the 93.

    Not the greatest pics:

Good luck on your search. Seems like a boutique shop could sell quite a few BTTF-themed accessories to the right audience.

Definitely custom, but should be do-able. Need to figure out the mounting pads first, then the tubing. Go for it. (I’m trying to figure out the amber-over-red tail lights.)
