I'm in the process of adding a rearview backup camera to my tailgate on my 2007 Tacoma. I need to cut a 1/2" hole in the bottom underside of the gate to route the wiring as the camera is integrated with the tailgate handle. Once I cut the hole, is it advisable to "seal" or paint the cut edges of the hole? I plan on adding a rubber grommet to the hole, but I just don't want rust developing.

Yes, touch up the exposed metal with paint to slow rust

You may also want to consider hitting the inside of the tailgate with a product such as Amsoil HDMP. The HDMP works very well in areas not exposed to direct spray.
