I'm debating about installing a double shear kit (https://jdfabrication.com/collectio...ducts/2005-toyota-tacoma-uca-double-shear-kit or https://solomotorsports.com/shop/parts/toyota-parts/suspension-toyota-parts/toyota-w-y-upper-control-arm-double-shear-kit/).

My question is, how "needed" is this with non-severe/extreme use?

I run 33" tires, moderately off-road, tow trailers on and off road. I don't jump the truck, don't fly through the desert, don't seriously rock crawl.

Is the kit good preventative maintenance, or just unneeded overkill?

For your use case, it's probably unneeded overkill.
