Currently I'm using a couple of steel ammo boxes for my tools. Great as a stout container, not so much for organization and they have a tendency to slide/ vibrate around the bed.

Started looking at tool rolls and wanted to know what others are using and brand recommendations. Do you like slots or bags? Maybe both as I don't think slots will work too well for sockets.

    TIA.

I ordered various waxed cotton rolls and pouches. I keep them in a watertight case, but I wanted a water resistant tool none the less. Just search waxed cotton pouch or tool roll on Amazon, and a good amount come up. Pick ones that fit your socket sets and wrench count. I think the rolls were $40 +/- each, and I think the pouches were $25 each.

    -1 roll for metric sockets
    -1 roll for standard sockets
-1 roll for standard and metric open end wrenches
-1 pouch for metric impact sockets
-1 pouch for standard impact sockets
-2 pouches for other miscellaneous allen sets, pliers, etc.

I’ve been using a Ryker 5 pocket roll from Amazon for a bit now. I keep the Tacoma specific sockets needed for trail repair on Ernst rails in 4 pockets and some wrenches in the last pocket. The roll stays in a Packout box along with ratchets, M18 inflator, 3/8 impact, spare batteries, deflator tool (from Jaco that works pretty damn great), and tire repair kit. It’s as tight and light as I could put together a trail repair box.

One of my wrench rolls is from https://bucketboss.com/

It's really solid and has held up great for over a decade now

I've got this Klein backpack. Picked it up free on our local buy nothing group on FB. I know I've got pics somewhere but can't find them. I have a box of sockets in the outer pocket, tool roll with box end wrenches in one of the larger vertical pockets inside. And allo kinds of other stuff obviously. It's my go to, even at home now, a Lot of times I just grab the backpack outta my truck as it's got everything in one place.

Mine is HEAVY, so it's great that it's a backpack. My wife hates anytime she has to move it around the garage, lol.

So I was at the Outdoor show and picked up a Step 22 Pangolin Tool Roll at their booth.

Seems nice. One thing I don't like is there aren't socket holders. Loose in the pouch. :( The Rep said they are working on one. I'm keeping an eye out for one as I can integrate it into this roll or just put all socket stuff in another roll. :spending:

That seems pricey for a tool bag. Nice bag though

Did some research on this about a year ago, ended up with a Dickies for my wrenches, and a Bucket Boss for everything else but sockets, and big items. Sockets are on a 2-sided socket rail, bits are in Dewalt boxes. Everything including cordless impact wrench, impact driver and Sawzall fits in a Zarges 23x18x9 box.

If money is no object, the Atlas46 and Step22 bags are nice, but overkill for my needs. I wouldn't buy any brands that only show up on Amazon. I also had certain dimensional constraints to get everything to fit into a Zarges box.
