So this happened intermittently after a car wash yesterday. Speedo dies lights come on then after a few min all but the CEL go back to normal.

Problem is, I like washing my truck.

Any suggestions for a quick sensor replace. Seems there’s a few of these VSS’s on our trucks.

    Thank you in advance.

There is no Vehicle Speed Sensor on automatic trucks, vehicle speed is provided by the ABS module from the rear wheel speed sensors. The ABS module reports vehicle speed to the cluster which then sends it out to the other modules.

Since you have an ABS light on the first step is to see what code(s) you have in the ABS.
It's not uncommon for the wires for the rear speed sensors to corrode and break at connector S22 above the rear axle.

For more info about the P0500 code and how the vehicle speed system works see the post below (scroll down to P0500).

You’re a very helpful fella. So Thank you first off.

the light is intermittent. Just went through another car wash and everything is completely normal.

I did notice a few days before all of this my fan speed was dropping on when the rpm’s dropped below 1000 or so but I didn’t notice any dash light. Not that it wasn’t on I just didn’t notice it.

the dash did the no speedo/xmas tree light deal when I got off and left nothing but the 0500 code. Also.

if the battery light pops back up I’ll bust out the multi meter and see what she says.

    This is lame.

A 2006 MIGHT be different than my 2007, but I've had an intermittent CEL for months. It comes on for 20 miles then goes off for 2 weeks. Auto Zone says it's a Wheel Speed Sensor but they can't say which and don't worry about it yet. I had my truck in a local independent shop for other work and asked them to check it out while in the shop.

Was told the same thing. Keep driving until which of the 5 sensors goes bad. They said that when the Speedo stopped working and the ABS light came on they could easily figure out which one to replace.

Sounds like you have the same problem.

I had a strange issue with my truck were my abs lights came on what caused it was one of my rear wheel bearings failed and melted the tone ring on the bearing then chewed up the abs sensor. I noticed it when I pulled the sensor and gear oil was on it. I never heard the bearing.
