I got a replacement bumper for my 2016 DC Sport that came with LED lights (2-39 watt, 2-48 watt although I may not use them all). I'd like to wire them into the cargo light that comes on when using the key fob to unlock the doors, so I can see behind the truck when walking up.

The LEDs didn't come with a relay. Would I need to add a relay or larger fuse?
The LEDs only have positive and neutral wires. What wire out of the cargo light switch would I have to tap into in order to have the LEDs come on with the cargo light?

    Thanks for any help.

@SwampThing18 If those wattages are correct, you have about 15A there [2(39) + 2(48)]/12, so yeah, you’ll need a relay. You mentioned these being in the rear bumper, so let’s assume about 20’ of wire, so if you wanted to keep it under 2% voltage drop, you’re looking at 8 gauge. If you don’t mind a little more voltage drop, you can get away with 12 gauge. Or compromise and go with 10 gauge.
All of the above comes with a really big disclaimer though. I am betting those wattages are an “equivalency” as opposed to actual draw. That is a good amperage for a 48” light bar, just to give you an idea. So if you can find the actual draw, you’d be better off.
Now, regardless of all that, I would definitely use a relay. You can tap off of the cargo switch (blue wire I think?) and feed pin 85 on a relay. Since this is ground switching, you will want to use a relay with a diode built in, or add one to avoid flyback voltage spikes. That’s nothing as hard as it sounds

Puppypunter, If you had a cargo light breakout T harness, could you run those lights off of the existing wiring without an added Relay?

If those wattages are actual draw vs equivalent brightness, I wouldn’t. I can’t say for sure obviously, but I would keep it under 1 amp, 2 tops. The cargo light and OEM bed lights in the 2020+ are pretty low draw, so I don’t think Toyota would have splurged making the wire way bigger than it would need to be.
