Hi all - have wide, aggressive all terrain tires (265/75R16) but seems like too much tire for the truck I recently bought from another owner. The 4cyl seems under powered for these tires.

Would anyone know what size would fit (something more all season/ better mpg) ? Looking at something not as wide, thank You!

Standard tire size on 2nd gen Prerunner is 245/75-16. Optional tire is a 265. I think it’s a 60 series, but I might be mistaken. Thing to look at is tire weight. That 2.7 will have to work harder to pull a heavier tire. Bought my base Prerunner new and ran the 245s on the steel wheels for 45 thousand. Then I bought a set of TRD OR wheels and ran the 265s for over a 100,000 miles. Tire/wheel weight was basically the same, as was tire height. No noticeable difference in the way it drove or in the mileage.

I put a set of 4Runner take-offs on my '08 2.7 4X4 access cab, 265/70/17 HTs. Pulls 'em as good or better as the stock 245/75/16 ATs on steelies. It's a 5-speed tho. The 2.7 is happiest when it's breathing a little.

I'll second the stock size but look at the tire weights too my stock Firestones LE2s are 32lbs each I had gone to 255/70R17 which were 41lbs but I definitely felt a bit more sluggish with the slightly taller carcass and extra weight. Went back to stock and truck feels much better and my mpg went back to 20 something but honestly those falkens weren't too bad for that size. Any larger and you get closer to 50lbs especially if you go with an E rated tire.

Falken Wildpeaks come in a P246/75R16 which are only like 39lbs if you want something cool/offroady but without a huge power penalty.
