Alright let's get this out of the way... listing here since I don't have 10 posts on 4Runners.com. Worst case I drain the fuel and fluids and scrap it.

    2005 4Runner Limited V8 4WD
    $1000
    339,640 miles
    San Angelo, TX

Purchased at a sheriff's auction and just got a Texas title in the mail. Friend who called me at 7am and asked if I wanted a $800 V8 4Runner said it was rusty but not bad... it was bad. It is also spray painted tan with heavy over spray onto the interior and glass.

    Good
    • Could make a decent start to a V8 swap into a V6 4th gen.
    • Maybe a good hunting rig for a season or two.
    • A/C is cold and heat works.
    • 4Lo seems to engage, full time 4WD truck.
    • All windows and sunroof work.
    • Engine sounds fine, transmission shifts fine the time I took it up to highway speed.
    Bad
    • Truck lived in Wisconsin until it was seized by a Texas sheriff's department in late 2024.
    • Frame and body are badly rusted out.
    • Suspension is original and shot, XREAS system.
    • Steering rack boots are gone.
    • The spray paint makes the situation so much worse because it's noticeable to the average person.
    • Front passenger ABS wiring is cut, passenger brake line is "custom" and sketchy.
    • Interior is trashed.
    • Front diff axle seals appear to be leaking.
    • Front sway bar mounting holes are destroyed and rusty. Unsure if there is even any good metal to repair the mounting points. I have it removed and sitting in the back.
    • At least one gas tank strap is severed. Skid plate might be holding it up at this point.
    • One rear axle seal looks shot.

I'm taking a $300 offer from a local wrecker at the end of the week. If anyone is interested you just have to beat that.
