Yeah, was just making a comparison. I’m not sure if my leafs need to replaced or not. Don’t have no issue with them, other than the 2” block. I am really starting to lean to AAL’s

Leaf packs all just get a "reputation" for not squeaking. Doesn't mean poop. lol They all usually do.

What’s wrong with the 2” block? What are you wanting to achieve by changing?

Interesting. I was under the assumption that using a 2 inch block is bad that it can cause something called Axel warping. no, I don’t know exactly what that is. I would have to research it. But in other posts many are telling me to get rid of the 2 inch block and do an AAL or upgrade the leaf springs. so I’m just basing my information on those who I think should know what they’re talking about, but it looks like I am going to have to do further research on this.

AAL and most aftermarket spring sets will be higher rate and will generally ride stiffer. This is needed to support more load. You might not need that.

So just to clarify…you’re saying there are no negative effects from using 2” blocks?

I’m not saying that necessarily. It depends on use. If you’re not trying to carry more weight, then it’s a perfectly reasonable approach in my opinion. If it is performing fine to you now, then maybe just leave it alone.

I like the idea, saves me a lot of money…and as for off-roading, I manly just cruise scenic trails here in Michigan, nothing extreme. Appreciate the advice.

    Apparently a 2” block isn’t so bad

According to an AI summary of internet comment sections... It literally says "according to Reddit users" lol. You ever asked a technical question on Reddit before??

You won't feel the effects of axle wrap driving around town. But in deep snow or mud, or on gravely/rocky inclines, you will immediately see why axle wrap is bad. It's a problem with leaf springs in general (some have design features to minimize it tho, like military wrapped ends), so adding any leverage to the center of rotation just makes the problem worse. But there isn't really a universal "too much" for block height. Just more is worse.

All leaf springs squeak. There is nothing about the design of any of them that ensure squeaks or no squeaks. The squeaks are environmental. If you live anywhere where rust is an issue, you should just get used to greasing the slider pucks every so often. It's easy to do, and makes the leafs ride even smoother after. And make sure you don't grease the poly bushings before putting them in the spring eyelets. Only grease the metal sleeve (both sides) that goes in the middle.

Sorry to circle back on this, but did you end up putting deavers on with stock TRD pro shocks?

I've had Deaver stage II on my OEM Pro shocks for like 3 years. No problems. If you have the appropriate amount of weight you won't have too much lift for those shocks

I've read that spraying them down with fluid film or whatever attracts dirt and causes them to squeak.

Not in my experience. Dirt/dust doesn't cause them to squeak. Being dry and rusty does. I've been spraying my leafs down with Fluid Film at least twice a year for about 10 years now. Only squeaks are when that washes away or dries up.

Thanks for the update man I appreciate it, always nice to hear real world experience.
I know its not popular and they are obviously inferior to top of the line shocks but I really like my TRD pro takeoffs. I got them for 50 each and rebuilt them all at home (I rebuild MTB suspension and some truck and SXS work) and they are great. I will change the valving on 1 of the bypass zones next winter but for AZ forest roads and all the trails we take it down I have been impressed for what I have into them. I also have a theory about internal bypass designs and cooler oil temps but its hard to do an apples to apples comparison since a standard shock will have less oil than a internal bypass setup of the same piston diameter (just my 2 cents).
