So I need yalls help with this, my driveshaft snapped/sheered off while I was driving, took it to a shop, they welded back I'm guessing the U bolt and put new fittings on it, Im not mechanically inclined except for the basics they are charging $730 for parts and labor which I don't have a problem with paying, it saves me from going to Toyota to get it repaired. They are also saying my transfer case was damaged and needing repair which is another $1k for one that has 120k miles on it. They're saying I can still drive it on two wheel drive but in order for me to have 4 wheel drive I need to replace it. I don't use 4x4 at all but it's always good to have it in case I need it, my question is, has anyone run into this type of situation and got theirs repaired? Is there anything thing else that needs explaining I'm just stressing out.

They told you they welded it? More pictures would be good, but that looks like a failed u-joint, though maybe it took out an ear on the driveshaft.

You could have gotten an entire new drive shaft from Toyota for about 1,000 dollars.
    What did they weld?
I don't think I would trust a welded patched drive shaft at a mechanic shop unless they specifically did drive line manufacturing...

What on / in the transfer case is broken?

You should probably have all the remaining universal joints replaced as if one let go the others aren't far behind....

Also think maybe an ear from the shaft. Dont get it welded and pay that much money. Get some more pictures of all the damage on the driveshaft and Tcase. You can probably find a used driveshaft for much cheaper

To be honest I heard "welded" something I couldn't really hear as I was at work, but now that as jimmyh stated, I do remember him saying U joints have been replaced and the middle part ring something , once I go tomorrow to the shop I can ask in detail exactly what they did and I'll take pics and post em here

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Looks good. It’s done and that’s all that matters.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
My question would be: How do you know something's bent if you weren't inside? It's hard to tell if the driveshaft hit the actuator. If so, maybe that's all that needs to be replaced.

were there any odd or obvious noises occurring before this happened?
how many miles on yer taco?
i have odd noises going on an '11 RC 4wd that i am concerned about
clunking while shifting from P to R (backing up) to D
so i did a DiY check of the Ujoints (there is no center support carrier bearing, it is a regular cab RC)
the Ujoints do not appear to be played out in danger of doing what happened to you
    i am Not a mechanic...just a hack :(
