2015 TRD Offroad: I have both knock sensor plugs removed and I've followed the harness back to where it exits the V and turns toward the passenger side. I cannot for the life of me see the plug that goes to the main harness so that I can unhook it. If anybody could offer some direction here it would be greatly appreciated. My apology for starting a new thread. I posed this question earlier today in the 4.0 intake manifold removal thread that I started however I've not had any replies so I figured I'd bug you all again. Thanks, Homespun

Thanks for the reply. One thing that I noted was that he listed the two 16341-AD010 water out gaskets yet never mentioned having to remove that housing at the back of the engine (6 bolts total). That would give a little bettter access but the darn plug is still buried back there. I thought that the lower middle bolt on the water in assembly was a bear to remove but this plug is proving to be just as challenging if not more so.

That harness and the rear water inlet ports are pain in the butt to get to. Here is a picture of it.

It’s a kinda left handed feel/squeeze and pull all with you left hand( or at least for me)kinda behind the passenger head, you can pop that plastic tab to gain a little more harness play

Thanks a lot for the replys. With a bit more perseverence I was able to eyeball that connector and after hours of struggle was able to seperate the two halves using a single 90 degree angle pick to depress the lock tab and then push the male end off. Thought that I would have to depress and push at the same time but simply alternating pushing in on the lock tab and using the pick to push on the leading edge of the male side worked. Hallelluja! I'm not quite done yet though. The harness has three holder tabs on it. One is right next to the plug and attaches to a verticle bracket. I was able to get a flat headed screwdriver back there between the bracket and the base of the tab to pry it off. A second tab attaches the harness to the small pipe in the V and it's easy to get off. The third one however is beneath the water in housing and can only be seen with a mirror (maybe). Very, very tight back there so no room to slide a regular flat headed screwdriver under it to pop it out. Thinking I may have to bend a screwdriver shaft in order to reach it. I'll give another crack at it tomorrow.

Is it possible to access the plug without taking the entire top of the engine off? Anyone done it?

Don’t see how that is possible. The intake manifold is covering that area.
