Need tires for my 2017 SR5. I’ve got continental terrain contact HTs on it now, which have performed and worn just fine, but I’m having trouble finding them. My local Toyota dealership doesn’t sell them. Anyone have suggestions for a comparable tire? Dealership is offering me choices of Yokohama Geolander HT, Dunlop Grandtrek AT2, Firestone Destination LE2, Kuhmo Road Venture AT52, Michelin Defender LTX. Mostly highway and suburban roads. Not much snow anymore here in Northern NJ.

I have Michelin LTX Defenders on my Sport. Be sure to shop around more than just at your dealer. I bought my Michelins during a Costco sale.

Thanks for the reply. The Michelin’s are by far the most expensive on the list. I’ll see if my local BJs has them.

The BJs price is about $150 less than the dealer

Many of us also find them the best for your described use case. Since they are your only contact with the road, it's worth having good stuff

I suggest never going to a dealer for tires. They will probably just take it to their "tire shop" anyway.
Instead take it yourself to a good tire shop.
A shop that specializes in tires but doesn't sell groceries or new cars.

Fender flares,
I had the same issue. Toooo many choices! After doing a lot of research and reading forums, I came to the conclusion that everyone has a favorite. Just got back from discount tires with my newly installed B.F. Goodrich KO3's 275/70 R17. the Ride is really nice, and they are no louder than my old Grapplers. Its an A/T tire. out the door cost was $1,361.00 with TTL :)

Call me crazy but I got tires from Amazon. Way cheaper than anywhere local to me, even with paying Discount Tire to mount them.

    I won't call you anything.
I buy some things from Amzn but not the only things that are between your car and the road.
especially when your brakes rely on them
What will you do if you need a warranty.
The shop that mounted them but you didn't buy from will remind you of that.

The dealer probraly buys these tires from outside source, marks them up. Then one of techs mounts them. Like some people wrote, check out tire shops, probraly cheaper.

I mean, it’s no different from buying any other car part on the internet. I just cut out the middle man and saved over a hundred bucks a tire.

I just replaced the Firestone Destination LE2 tires that came with my truck. They had about 34k miles on them. They probably could have gone another 6 months. But the tires started feeling mushy and didn't hold the road like they used to. Costco wanted $850 for a set of LE2's on sale. I thought that price was a bit high, especially for Costco. Costco didn't carry the Michelin Defender 2 tires for my truck's size. A local independent shop had a set of Kenda Klever A/T2 tires in stock, so I went with those for $740. I'm pretty happy with them and I saved $110 compared to Costco. The only disadvantage is my gas mileage went down a bit with the all terrain tires. Toyota probably went with the LE2's to meet government fuel economy standards.

I just got 4 Firestone Destination A/T2s mounted at Costco for $750.00 out the door. They have a Factory 55,000 mile warranty.

I'm currently about 1,200 into a brand new set of 245/70/r16 Tayo Open Country AT III and couldn't be happier with them. I got them put on my Tacoma on January 8th of this year, and driven in a few snow storms and buckets and buckets of rain, no slippage, no sliding, haven't even had to use 4x4, other than just for about 10 minutes every other month to keep things working and lubed. I consistently get 24mpg in the City, and the best HWY I've gotten sitting at 65mph is 27mpg. I couldn't be happier all around personally, haven't taken them on anything serious off road, but that'll be coming up in the Summer months.
