So I put a decal on my hood to reduce glare about six months ago. Straightforward enough, right? Well, in my haste to install it, I didn't realize I'd purchased a decal for a 4Runner until it was partially adhered. Figured I'd live with it for a bit, but I'm ready for it to go. Anyone have tips for removing one of these?

3M rubber eraser wheel would be my first thing I’d try.

Everyone botched their trd sticker removal on their 24's, while mine came right off...
Wait for a hot day & let the hood bake in the sun majority of the day...
When it has peaked & the metal of the hood in nice & baked, then go for it with the help of a blow dryer or heat gun if needed.
If the corner doesnt Easily start peeling up, its not ready...
That was key, everyone else, picked & picked, I was able to pull my stickers in one piece cuz I waited & knew what I was looking for & doing...

ILL SAY IT AGAIN DONT DO ANYTHING TILL THE HOOD HAS BAKED IN THE HOT SUN FOR HOURS...
    THAT IS KEY
    NICE HOT 85-90+ DEGREE DAY...

Appreciate the input, gang. I’ve already removed the TRD bed decals but the hood decal seems a good deal thicker. Didn’t know if that changed any of the removal process.

Is the 3M rubber wheel the gold standard or will any brand do?

I used the cheap one and had no probs. That said, overall it does seem that real 3M stuff is better quality/materials.

Agree w/ post below. A liquid is preferred for this.

I'd avoid any mechanical (e.g. spinning abrasives). The xecal will pull off best once warmed-up in the sun.

Did you want to cover the whole hood scoop or just the section that it is on now. I would leave it on and live with it .

Vinyl you out on six months ago should come up in one piece. Use heat, but not too much

The 3m eraser wheel isn't designed for that. You want to heat it up to loosen the adhesive and carefully pull it away. (hairdryer and plastic scraper)

Use a hairdryer don’t use a heat gun it’s to easy to damage paint. I know the heat gun has low settings but it’s not worth the risk. JMHO

Bunch of guys hated on me in one of the "how to remove bedside stickers" post cuz I made it look so simple & they struggled, some even took it to a bodyshop to finish it...
Some commented they must use 2 different glues....
Ide start in a corner & if it felt like it was still welded on, ide stop & not chip the sticker...
    Ide wait...
I can tell as time went on & the metal was getting hotter, the sticker would become more pliable...
    Ide somewhat agree with TopDog
Seems like the heat gun just caused the sticker to just want to stretch & break more easily.
The heat from the sun heats the entire panel & the metal to the core & really releases the glue on these decals, thats the key to painless success.

When I did mine, it wasnt summer but it was warm that day, Im in San Diego...
I just looked up the post, 80 degrees in November, it wasnt a scorcher.
    But that would be better..
