Hi, I am planning to enlist either in the Navy or Marine corps, more towards Marine corps.

I was just wondering if there are lots of differences as far as jobs and fields go? From what I understand Navy spends most of the time on the ships, while Marines get deployed to more of a hot spots around the globe.

Are there any similar jobs to like 3d1x2 ? or even in the field like related to drones and things like that

    Thanks.

If he joins the Navy in either the surface or submarine forces, there's a good chance he spends half of his time on ships and the other half on shore. If he goes aviation, his "sea duty" will only have him on ship when his squadron is doing workups and/or deploying, and the rest will be on shore in his squadron spaces.

Marines also do a fair amount of time at sea when assigned to the FMF. During deployments they will ride the gators, then offload ashore somewhere to conduct operations or training, then board the ships again until their next stop. When at sea, Marines generally have three main jobs: eat, workout, and sleep. They'll have their regular jobs mixed in with that, but will spend the majority of their time doing those three things. Needless to say, they really look forward to deploying off the ships when they're in the AOR...lol

I think all services have similar jobs. Recommend doing as much research as possible, and talking to as many people as possible before signing on the dotted line.

Talk to all the recruiters and see what's available, keeping in mind that they're salesman. Take the ASVAB test and see what you're qualified for. Good luck.

I worked with a lot of really smart E6-7/O3 Navy Cyber folks in my career. The Navy guys and gals had all done some sea duty, but most of their careers were shore-based.

    Unfamiliar with "3d1x2."

IMHO, you should go with the service who has the billets available for you in the career field that you want. Then remember that the culture is a little different for everyone. The Marines...every Marine a rifleman, so be prepared to train like infantry regardless of your path. There might even be a bonus for signing up too for specialty fields like drone operators. I will say that the Navy has a lot of interesting things going on with that and they've invested serious money into R&D for underwater. The Navy would be my option for someone who has interests like you do simply because they have more options and you'll have a career post military also. But as others have said...get that in writing!

Curious, what do you mean, "you will have a career post military"
I dont know much about any of the options, but you make it sound like gaurenteed job after you get out provided by the Navy?
Well, atleast that how im interpreting it & pretty sure thats not the case....
Have heard stories people cant find work after leaving, radio talk shows & what not...

Former Marine here I was an 0311 (infantry) if I had to do it over again I would have went in as a navy corpsman (medic) and went FMF in a Marine infantry unit
The corpsman in California when they get out don’t have to take the nclecs you have a six figure job waiting for you if you go infantry you’ll have permanent hearing loss (I’m literally deaf in one ear) and a fucked up broken body and nothing to show for it except some ptsd

Yes I am thinking something in IT or medical field, I am not obsessed with firearms, I just like military life style and purpose. I am a red cross volunteer also and talking with people and helping them is one of my passions, but will see first to get thru bootcamp and then rest of that.

I am 25 and before i resigned, I had a 70K IT job. Working in a lab as a server/rack level as a tech at first and as specialist after 2 years, but a meaningless money job in a closed off lab. I will come back here by end of year and maybe update where i am after bootcamp

you absolutely don’t want to be a Marine then, we got the oldest tech and the leftover equipment from the other branches. In the Marines you’re a rifleman first, as an 03 we looked down on pogs (other Marines who weren’t combat arms but combat support)
Go air force if you want tech, get a security clearance and have six figures waiting for you when you get out by any dod contractor (security clearances are expensive for companies to get civilians so if you have one from the military it’s a guaranteed job)

dont believe a word a recruiter tells you they’re all full of shit and just want their quota. If you go navy they can promise you nuclear but after boot camp you’ll be open butt cheeks and they’ll give you the shittiest non tech mos they can find same for guys who think they’re gonna go buds or some other shit

Why just those two branches? See what they all have to offer. Look
At the national guard as well.

No, the services will not provide you with any job after your enlistment. What I mean is that there are lot's of opportunities as a contractor or civil (although there is a war on civil servants right now by the ignorant). Drone operators are sought after by many companies due to their applicability.
The only people who can't find jobs after their time in service imho are those not willing to go outside their comfort zone. Be proactive, get certified or educated in something, move to where the job is, etc.. I know plenty of 03 (grunts) who made a transition with success.

Agree, check them all out. I've learned over the past 15 yrs how much I respect the Coast Guard for how much they do with so little. Heck, in peacetime...they probably see more action than most MilDeps!
