    Hello,

Early last month, the check engine light (CEL) and traction control light on my 2012 Tacoma (4.0L V6) came on, showing code P2442. I replaced the secondary air injection valve with a $200 part from Amazon, hoping it would resolve the issue. However, a few days after installation, the CEL returned—this time with code P2441.

Im wondering if this could be due to using a cheaper aftermarket part. One thing ive noticed is that the secondary air injection pump hasnt turned on since the new valve was installed. I checked all connections, and everything seems secure. Additionally, I havent received any codes indicating a failure of the air pump itself. To rule out part quality as a factor, I ordered both a new valve and air pump from a Toyota dealership, hoping this will finally resolve the issue.

Has anyone else encountered this problem where the air pump doesnt activate but also doesnt trigger a fault code?

Ive also considered purchasing a bypass kit from Hewitt Technologies, but Ive read that their “plug and play” product may sometimes require tuning. Can anyone vouch for their reliability?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

My local dealership threw up their hands and quit when they couldn’t solve the SAIS issues. CEL and Trac control lights came off n on for no reason. Had nothing to do with the filter breaking down. Installed Hewitt P&P, didn’t require any tuning and passed smog in CA. Pay Hewitt, skip dealer, and enjoy driving your taco again.

thanks for the heads up, the parts I ordered from the dealership are coming in tonight so I’ll install these and hopefully my issue will get fixed. If not I’ll buy the bypass kit. How was the installation of the kit? Do you still have the instructions for it? I’ve been trying to find a video or a pdf of how to install it but I’ve had no luck.

The kit is straightforward. Removing the air filter gives better access. It does come with instructions. Looked for videos on YouTube and didn’t find an exact tutorial.

If anyone has the instructions they can post, I suspect this may become more common as age causes issues, I’m curious if it’s worth the price/work of the Hewitt kit vs repairing with factory parts

Did you ever solve the issue? Just had code P2445 on my 2013, I replaced the sai pump but it is still having problems. Wanting to do the full delete, did you do yours?

I have the complete Hewitt SAIS delete right down to the pressure switches. Every once in while the check engine light comes on for P2441 and P2442, just clear the code and it’s gone. Besides that’s, I’m super happy with it and I believe it’s a lifetime warranty with them as well.
