As far as I know there is no such adapter.

I recall only one person able to convert a OBDI system to read via a OBDII and that took days of writing code

The OBDI system you jumper the T&E pins on the check connector and count your blinks

That's strange, i thought all vehicles manufactured and sold to the US market were OBD2 equipped after 1996....? Did 97 Tacos come OBD1???

It's an odd looking pinout, nowhere near obd2. Connector is on topside of 2.4 4cyl engine
    I'll take a picture when I get a chance.

That's the engine diagnostic port that Toyota Tech's can access. You need to find the OBDii port under the dash on the right side above your foot.

It was a long day I just read this wrong thinking the OP was trying to connect a OBDII reader to a OBDI vehicle.

Got er done when I plugged into the right port. Whatever code was causing 'check engine' cleared while testing.
    Thank you and the gang.

THANK YOU from five years into the future! :)

I am here because my CE light just came on...

For posterity, here is a pic from my 1997 Tacoma. Sorry for out of focus, but you get the idea. It's right by the brake.
