Might need a translator, but @tonered... is this something a tuner can help with?

Man this is a tough first post. Sorry Jimmy.

I'd start with whatever code you had that you didn't fix.

"My ECU is in safe mode. I can't get anything to work. The truck started fine, I had a code that I didn't fix, and the battery died. The ECU forgot or is not working well. Don't get me wrong; it is in limp mode. The only time the truck powers up is when I turn the key on. I don't have any radio or anything else, but the truck starts to run; but as soon as I turn the key off, the interior lights and everything goes dead."

My interpretation is a code took the truck out of commission, it sat long enough for the battery to die, the ECU somehow forgot it was an ECU because it had no power, and has now defaulted to limp mode.

Nicely done. That's what I interpreted as well.

I know some of the tuner folks have been able to unbrick some ECU's that didn't take a tune flash appropriately, so they may be able to help here.

Definitely not my expertise, but I'd start with a known good battery, address any and all codes, and spend a day or two with a multimeter/test light. I'm sure if multiple components are out (not getting power), many of them likely all lead back to a common source. I'd probably also lock and unlock my doors with the key fob a few times to ensure the security system isn't kicking in or doing something weird after the power loss.

Unfortunately, limp modes typically clear after after cycling the ignition.

The fact that it is running is good. I just have no idea other than a short / rodent damage causing an issue?

Look for any evidence of a nest or chewing on insulators.

Steering angle sensor is a pretty common failure after a drained battery. Maybe read some threads about it. Heres one:
